I served total about 9.5 years in the Marine Corps, from Jul. 1993 to Nov. 2002, with 3 years in the active reserve. My separation code was RE.1a on both DD-214. I was SSgt and my MOS was 1341 and 0411.
I not trying to be dramatic here , but the reason I got out was my parents had difficult time taking care of my younger sister and brother when they were in high school and elementary. I did request for “family hardship,” but it was denied. I had no choice but to get out. Then, I immediately reenlisted in the active reserve at home for 3 years. Now, my sister had graduated from college and my youngest brother just graduated from high school. He also enlisted in the Marine Corps, and just graduated from boot camp. I feel that I have accomplished my obligation with them. And now, I am ready to serve again.
I want to go back to active duty after getting my degree in May 2009. I am now 35 years old and have been out for almost 7 years. I am not sure that if I have any chance with the Marine Corps. Can someone give me a feed back? Thank you.

I gave a Marine a ride to the flight line on a base in Iraq in '05. He jumped in the back of the Hummer and I noticed that he had gray hair and he was an E-5. I was 38 at the time and a E-4 having been out of the Army for 13 years I had joined the Seabees as a Reservist. Being an "Old man" myself, I asked him about his age and rank. He was 43 and said that he had gotten out of the Marines for 15 years and had joined again on active duty and was able to regain his E-5 status.
