I, too, am a retiree entitled to wear my Dress Greens/Blues on special occassions. Unfortunately--and this is an amazing coincidence--both uniforms shrunk in the closet. Big Grin

I don't really have a problem with people wearing some sort of uniform to a costume party. It's unlikely they will get it right.

I'm thinking of going as a navy pilot. Except I'll just wear jeans, aviator sunglasses, dog tags, and body oil-and pump 80's jams while carrying a volleyball.

Well, if it is an adult costume party, what's the big deal, as long as rank nor ribbons are not worn?

I don't see the big deal if it was given to him to wear by a family member or friend in the military...it is supportive....if it wasn't given to him to wear by someone in the military he might have just picked it up, but that would mean he wasn't wearing ribbons with it or wearing it properly...but I think it was loaned to him, it is an expensive costume to buy with boots and all....

It is against the law unless the uniform is de-militaized, that means no ribbons, rank, shoulder patches nor buttons. You must remove the metal buttons. Once you remove all those items it's just a green suit and an ugly one at that.

Yeah right, whatever you say. Tell that to my little sister, she wore one of my old uniforms, ill fitting as it was, to a Halloween party once. Course that was many years ago, but, none the less, do you really think she was trying to impersonate anyone or anything?

I guess I broke the law then, LOL, my friend and uncle who are both cops should have said something...most people don't look at it as a sign of disrespect...depending on what you do while you are wearing it....I doubt if I ever got taken to court for it the judge would do anything...be interesting, first time in jail and it was for that, LOL

Last year I went to an adult Halloween party dressed up as a SWAT cop. Really I found out at the last minute about the party, and luckily some of my military gear is in basic black.

Do I really think there's a problem with someone wearing a military uniform at a Halloween party?..NO. It's the context of where it's being worn that indicate the wearer's intentions.

Of course, in good taste, it shouldn't have rank, and badges not actually earned. But it's hardly worth getting wrapped around the axle about. If the guy starts spouting off, and pretending that he actually is a soldier, then it's time for 'twenty questions' and the appropriate level of ***-wuppin'.

Don't have any plans yet for Halloween this year, but if I do, I'll be going as Big Foot. Hey the Ghilles are great for that.

I drought anyone would go to jail for wearing the uniform with good intentions. Some don’t know you can’t wear it and others wear when in a controlled environment (i.e party with other close military friends where everyone knows no one is disrespecting the uniform) I think its more where and how you use the uniform that determines the overall judgment.

Marc, you are right on the mark (no pun intended). It's not intended to misrepresent the uniform.

Out in lala land men wear what looks like a cops uniform, they stop cars, ask the woman to get out of the car (standard procedure for a cop) then attack her and take the car.
I had a cop stop me, I rolled my window down about 2 inches, showed him my ID and told him I would drive to the closest gas station or super mart THEN get out of the car. He agreed.
Any REAL cop will agree

I did something similar back in high school, I had to modify it a little because I am a female, but everyone knew what I was going for, it was so fun, my hubby just opens up his uniform top and we put baby oil on his wash board abs, with his dog tags hanging there...lets just say he got a lot of compliments from all the ladys...LOL, I wasn't jealous, I knew I was the one going home with him!!!!

Hey Greywolf - if you think Nicholson was over the top, what about Marlon Brando or Robert Duvall in "Apocalypse Now"?? They make ol' Jack look almost STRAC (there's an old expression for you ...).

When I read this debate I thinh back to all the Haloween parties I have been too. The only issue I have with military uniforms is that you should not be in the military. Case in point, on Halloween 2002 I went to a house party near a military base. At this house party I met 3 Rangers that were in their BDUs. This was ofcourse next to Ft. Lewis. Now the Rangers were polite and did not consume excessive amounts of alcohol. They were guests of another Ranger buddy that invited them and it was required you have on a costume to get in. Hence the reason they were in uniform. I just thought it was a bit lame and inappropriate to wear the uniform that you wear everyday at work to a Halloween party. If your not in the military wear what you want. We defend peoples' freedom to act like idiots.
