Hello all
I like to share with all of you out there about a very special group of people that work and live at Armed Forces Recreation Center’s these people put your needs for the special visit. For me it all started in Oct, 1977 when I got orders to report to Garmich
For my first year as a ski patroller. I passed every test but my skiing was a little down but I was needed as a ski and binding mechanic. And I did get a lot of skiing in and loved every minute of it. That nest season I returned as my unit at the time was doing winter training. So I went and talked to my old 1sgt in Garmich and he gave me a patrols jacket and said I should get to work on the slope and be at formation in the morning I must of smiled all the way back to my room. The next day I was on the slopes as a patroller and helping my unit more problem skiers. I cherish my time at A.F.R.C. it was a greatest time of my life. I know I help a lot of people and would do it all over again. But I have to say that I take my hat off to those people how also took my place after I was gone. So let us now hear from any one out there how also been at a A.F.R.C.

Yep Mikey, They run the resorts for the U.S. Military all over the world. In the middle 90s the family and I went the General Walker Hotel at the Eagle's Nest. The guy who replaced me in Belgium visited the "Shades of Green" resort in Fla. just next to DisneyWorld. There is a resort in Garmisch, oh about 5 yrs old by now. The Elderwise Lodge has great sking and is home to the Gen Marshall Conference center. There is waiting lines for all of these places, the guys and gals back from the sandbox have top of the list.

Spent a weekend at the Rasthaus at Chimsee, Germany, and traveled from there to Neuschwanstein, Garmisch and Saltzburg - now that was a weekend to remember!

That's Neuschanstein Castle in southern Germany. The Ops Section of my Squadron did the tour there...unbelievable inside. The Castle is supposed to roughly resemble a white swan. You can see that from this side view - -

Memories!

Engineer E-7. Retired in 98. I can tell I'm getting old when the memories of the scenic vues, the skiing, the drinking, and the girls starts getting fuzzy. But, The memory of the bathtubs in the General Walker will follow me to my grave.

They had Old Claw foot bathtubs that were 7 feet long at the base and roughly 3 foot deep and wide. It was the only bath tub I've ever been in that I could lay flat in and fully relax!

Oh, and the winter vue from the top of the Zug Spitze was pretty good too. Right up there with seeing the Northern lights 20 miles outside of Ft Wainright Alaska. It happened at 2 AM with clear skies and white out conditions on the ground. WOW! to both........

Thanks
