I will be starting EOBC (BOLC B) 03MAR2010. My girlfriend will be finishing up a job in England around that time. She would like to come out and stay with me while I am training. Is it possible to live with her? Will I have time to spend with her? Will she have anything to do at Fort Leonard Wood?

if you're a General then no sweat....

if you're a private soldier then keep your right hand warm.....

and rest assured Jody will take care of the rest.

I would think you should ask your chain of command this question.

Here's a hint, they don't call it Fort Lost-in-the-Woods for nothing! Cool

If she's loaded with money and can afford her own apartment somewhere off post you "might" be able to see her on weekends on the sly, but while yer in training, technically, you belong to Uncle Sam and nobody else!!

When your in training, your company commander has you by the neck. You can't scratch your butt without asking him.

If you ask him if your girl can stay with you...he will be laughing his head off, while you are doing 100 pushups for even aking.

As Grey Wolf said...your butt belongs to Uncle Sam. The military, whatever branch you are in, you will not be molly coddled.

Good luck!

Keep smiling, everyone will wonder what you've been up to!

One more thing...if you tick off your superior, you might never see your girl. The military can make your life miserable if you tick them off!

Since this is an Officer School, it is much harder to tell. Engineer Officer Basic Course (EOBC), contact the school and ask them the rules.

OFFICER SCHOOL!! FORGET IT!! You're gona be spending all yer time memorizing stress/bending moment coefficients, spit shinning doornobs, jogging to cadence, doing PT Tests, and writing reports out the ying-yang!! And the only time you'll touch yer bunk will be to stretch the blankets tighter on it for inspection!! Trust me - I been through that!!

From Ft. Leonard Wood she can drive east on I-44 to St. Louis and visit Busch Gardens. She can go west on I-44 to Springfield and shop/dine/etc. She can drop down from Spfld and visit Silver Dollar City.

Heck, if she doesn't mind spending a night or two at a hotel away from 'The Wood", she can travel down to Murfreesboro Arkansas and search for DIAMONDS. She'll be allowed to keep any that she finds. How could she resist THAT??

After all, you'll be in training for ALL of the weekdays, and perhaps every saturday. She'll need something to do for the 6 days between your visits at church on Sunday morning.

Big Grin

P.S. - There's a town(?) just a bit east of Waynesville named Devils Elbow. I"M SERIOUS!! I used to have some friends that lived out there so that they could get away from the scavengers that like to rape military folks on housing and such. They always seemed to enjoy the place. It's worth looking at just for the 'photo op' of you standing by a sign that says Devils Elbow.

There are trout streams fed by artesian springs just outside of The Wood. There used to be a trout hatchery off to the west by the town of Lebanon Missouri. There are lots of lakes, there's a lot to do by Branson.

Since you'll be in school there, they'll have a few religeous retreats under the BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) that you two can go on...these sometimes go to a lake resort.

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!

My son is currently in BOLC at Fort Sill - He has a room in the BOQ and has to be in his room by 23:00 every night except Friday and Saturday. He comes home for supper most night except when he is in the field and is off duty every weekend.

So, if you and your girlfriend can afford an apartment or hotel/motel for the time your in EBOLC at your own expense - go for it - just obey any rules like the 23:00 bed check my son has. The Army won't let you live off post unless your school is 20 weeks or longer.

For everyone else, you must have been prior enlisted - officiers are treated way different than enlisted. Always have been, always will be.
