It was the MArines that wore a jacket with a buckle on it:

Does it have a label anywhere?

The short jacket with fabric half-belt was part of British battledress uniform of the thirties to the fifties, the WWII officer and post war OR patterns of which ("v" neck to show shirt and tie) were very similar to the "Ike" jacket. In fact it's highly likely that one copied the other.

If your father served in Europe he might have had a uniform made up by a British tailor who added a few fittings from his British parts bin.

The boots are simple. The army used at least three different style of boots from in the 40s and 50s. Plain smooth toe laced, caped toe lace, buckle top and strap. The last two were sometimes called tanker boots, but they we issued to non-takers depending on availability.

The army also had a summer dress uniform, optional for enlisted, that was called "gabardines." But, I don't remember one in the Ike jack style.

Post the pictures and let us see what your looking at, we may be able to help after that.

Please keep us posted.

Check out the Jackets on General Eisenhower and some of his compadres in this Post-WW II picture taken in Berlin:

Evidently there were several varieties of the "Eisenhower Jacket", as even Eisenhower himself showed - -

dadmyhero, I believe that it it an OD blouse that was tailored in to an IKE Jacket. I was told that happen right after the Ike became popular during the post was period.

BTW here's how to get the picture into your post. Instead of using the URL incon feature use the URL image feature.

-1- Click on reply,
-2- click on the little picture icon in the icon link bar of the at the top of the reply form. It is the next to the last icon in the icon.
-3- paste the url the windowand then click "OK"

As I was posting this GWG, as he often does, came up with the answer. At least my instructions on how to post images might still be of use. Cool

As your initial post hints, the Ike Jackets right after WW II had buckles. Those earlier in the War had a single button at the bottom, then a button in a flap, then concealed buttons under the flap, then the belt buckle variety towards the end of the issue Post War - -

With buckle:

Googled Military Police Eisenhower Jacket and got this:

Your Jacket with the Brass Buttons may have been particular to the MPs as a dressy work uniform for Gate Duty, etc.

That's about as good as I can come up with - -

Yup, it is. I think most of the big-wigs of the War are there - probably for treaty-signing...

Bradley to the Left - probably prior to Normandy, with Montgomery on the right:

Here the Patton statue at West Point. When it was erected it was the only statue that was not facing the academy. There was a big uproar some saying it represented Patton turning his back on the academy. His family, who paid for it, absolutely insisted on it facing out saying, it was the way the general wanted it - looking ahead not looking back.

Recently the statue was moved because of construction at the Point.

Mrs. Patton didn't like most of the army leaders, most especially Ike and Doug.
