100% IU, how do I become P&T|

I am a 29 year old Iraq veteran, I am rated 80% with 100% IU but I am not P&T (70% depression, 40% Degenerative disc diease, and 10% from a scar)
I have the VA telling me I am eligiable from Pennsylvania real estate taxes cause I am 100% IU. I am looking on the pennsylvania website and it says I must be 100% P&T. I had a C&P for depression as secondary to the chronic back pain in apr 2009 where I was awarded 70% for that and 80% total, so that made me eligable for IU, I applied for IU and was awarded in aug 2009 but back dated from my last exam in arp 2009. so they never gave me another exam for me asking for the IU since I have become unable to work. can I request to become P&T or a C&P exam cause I feel I should be P&T and I have my doctor writing a letter saying that she thinks its permanent???? my wife is the only one who helped me with all the paper work so far with all the compensation. so any advice or phone number of someone I can call and talk with about this is appreciated. Hello 605 and welcome to the Discussion Boards. Thanks for your service in Iraq. Sorry to read about your injuries and problems.
I have no clue about the answers... but there is section on here titled: "Veterans Issues". It is about the 3rd section down on the front page. There is also a poster named "OldArmyLove" ... retired W.O. and a decent guy who likes to help folks... Look for him and (Usually in Gen.Disc.) see if he knows where to get you some help. My Dad is a WW2 8th A.F. Vet and a D.A.V. and V.F.W. and has used/contacted some counselors-helpers from the DAV and the VA and is now getting full paychecks... It took years, but don't give up. Look in the white pages of your phone book under the Government listings and find the correct folks. btw - Since you are new here on Mil.com can I suggest that instead of using the numbers they gave you for a screen name, come up with something more personable... scroll around and look for ideas... some folks use a part of their own name, or favorite hobby or sport, or Rank, or Branch or MOS. It will ( I think) help you get more feedback here on the website. Hope this helps you Soldier. Welcome Home. |

perhaps I cannot help. I have no clue as to what P&T, IU, or C&P stands for. There are others here that are in the same boat. You may want to define the acronyms at the beginning of your post/thread so that some of us that may have some connections in other units/areas will know how to research your question. Hope this will help. These are my opinions. Yours may differ. |

I have answered the post in Veterans Issues. Posting the same question in multiple forums violates the TOS.
To help understand VA Terms: C & P - Compensation and Pension - usually used to refer to a medical exam for disability, but it is the division of the VA that manages these issues. So properly it is a C & P exam. A Veteran with multiple disabilities may undergo multiple exams. They are often not performed when a medical discharge reviews the issues via a MEB/PEB. IU - Individual Unemployability - pays 100% for disabilities less than 100% when someone can not work - lots of rules beyond like 60% one, or 70% total. P & T - Permanent and Total Disability - 100% and IU may be rated temporary or Permanent. Extra Benefits for P & T like Champva (like Tricare) for family and Education Benefits. Can require 5-20 years of continuing evaluations for some conditions before P & T is granted. Others are granted initially. Depends on whether a condition could improve. Easier with what is called Scheduler or a rating of 100% for one condition or multiple conditions- not IU - disabilities. And since I added terms: MEB - Medical Evaluation Board - Command group of doctors and line officers that determine if there is a medical issue that renders you unfit for your current duty. PEB - Physical Evaluation Board - determines if your disabilities prevents you from retention in the military, and if so discharge or medical retirement. These two are simple explanations for complex military organizations and are not meant to explain all the details of their operation. I was curious as to what the poster was asking about, but didn't know the terms that he used. (If it can't be said as a word, i.e. - AWOL, is it actually an acronym?) I've been in the military ( a big part was IRR {Individual Ready Reserve} since Jan '72, but haven't been acquanted with too many disability terms.....YET!! LOL Thanks for clearing the air. The different branch's of the military actually publish regulations on Acronyms but then no one ever reads them, lol. For example CIB has meant Combat Infantry Badge in the Army for a great many years (since atleast WWII) but I was assigned to a Field Artillery unit and was told to be at the CIB to brief the CG (commanding general) at 14:00 and I'm puzzled all the way there (being prior Infantryman myself) only to find out the FA was using CIB to mean Command Information Briefing - just had to drop off a copy of the Army Reg. on Acronyms with the Chief of Staff later on that week.
