Let's see, first it was Ed McMahon then Farrah Fawcett closely followed by Michael Jackson. I've just read that Billy Mays was found dead.

In case anyone here has been at the bottom of a mine for the last few years, Billy Mays was the bearded shouting pitchman for all those "As seen on TV" products.

I certainly wouldn't wish him dead but to me, listening to him was like listening to fingernails being dragged across a blackboard.

I wonder if they'll continue running his commercials?

How come I pressed "One for English" and still can't understand a word the dude is saying?

I recall an interview that was done by Billy Mays, and was printed in Reader's Digest some time back.

He admitted that his lively attitude that we all saw was his belief in the products he advertised.
He did advertise only after testing them himself.

He was a unique person.

Billy Mays was struck hard on the head by a piece of luggage when the aircraft he was aboard had a bad landing yesterday. He shrugged it off in an interview after the landing, saying with humor, he has a hard head. However by evening he was on a talk show program and it was reported, his voice was somewhat off his normal tone. Shortly before going to sleep lst night he told his wife he felt funny. He never woke up.

Normally the celebs go in groups of three.

Billy Mays death changed that, I don't mean this in a negative sense, but Billy was always eccentric. Billy marched to a different drummer!

Keep smiling, everyone will wonder what you've been up to!

Not sounding disrespectful to the memory of Mr. Mays...

This almost sounds like the same type of head injury that claimed the life of the actress Natasha Richardson a couple of months ago.

Wikipedia has a great article on him.

Edited to correct the name of the actress.

You mean Natasha Richardson. She died of Epidural Hematoma due to blunt impact to head.

Given the symptoms.. probably had hemmorhage. Sudural or epidural(has to break the temporal bone in order to lacerate the middle menigeal artery). They have the best prognosis of any head bleed(artery bleed)- Of course you have to have access to a neurosurgeon, for it to be treatable-in order to have good prognosis.

Only the postmortem with tell.

It's not taken in a negative sense. I don't mind saying I hated his style but that's why remotes have mute buttons.

I too hope he rests in peace.

Anurism in the brain seems most likely. Doesn't take much of a hit to send you to the next world if you have one.

----- How Do All,,, low 80s here in "no jobs, Mich."... Too bad about Farah Fawcett & Billy Mays.. Wow, Mays was only 50!!.. got hit by luggage from a hard landing? Man, way too bad.. no matter what people thought of him, the guy was doing his best to make a livin in a very skinny, no jobs market, paying his bills AND paying his TAXES...Reminds me of when the damn GOOD actor, Bill Holden (4/17/1918--11/12/1981) checked out after he cracked his head open tripping in his bedroom. He was SLOSHED & bounced off the night-stand table. Found him 2 weeks later..To me his best flicks were, "Stalag 17--Born Yesterday & Sunset Boulevard"..//..I say, ALL minor head injuries should be checked out..especially for kids.. Many good lucks to all..

Aneurysm? I doubt he had an interacerberal/intraparenchymal or subarachoid bleed as these usually take significant force and are usually associated with LOC at onset of injury.

However from the brief history that we do know. Possible that he could have had carotid artery dissection. I am leaning towards epidural hemotoma.

Again, the postmortem will tell.

Tragic. Family is in my thoughts and prayers

I'd have to guess the bump on the head had something to do with it. That actually had a shot on TV of him talking about the plane's hard landing and that stuff came out of the overhead bin and hit him on the head, but he said, "I've got a hard head...!" If he got hit with the corner of a heavy hard case of some kind, he could have had a skull fracture and not even realize it...

I had a friend die of a brain aneurysm not too long ago. He was getting ready to go snowmobiling and Christmas Tree cutting - loading all his stuff to go to his mountain cabin. He went back in the house for a few more items, but didn't come back out.. His wife went in and found him lying on the floor dead - -
