Why would our Comrade President leave the US on Veterans Day??? Another slap in the face for Veterans when on one of the most important days of the year he ups and leaves for Asia..What does one expect from this Socialist trained Communist..Even in Russia on May Day all of Russia's leaders are there waving and supporting their own military..but not Obama..

Maybe he can take 20 minutes during his trip to give another dressing down to Gen. McCrystal while in the airport. And the dithering goes on while our troops try to make it through another spring offensive by the Taliban with a shortage of troops. A decision is due within weeks, the White House says. How long does it take to gather, train and deploy 40,000 troops if that is the decision?

He will be in Asia (Singapore) for a regional economic conference (APEC). There are more than enough places to honor American Veterans in the Far East. I could confirm he will be there Saturday the 14th, and Sunday the 15th. He is making a 4 nation trip to the far east starting on the 12th of November. He will visit Japan, China, South Korea and Singapore.

the nation and our welfare do not stop because it is veteran's day. if this conference brings anything good for us as a people, then i wish him a good trip.
i seriously doubt that he is leaving because of the date. So far as i can see, the scheduling for the meeting was not made by the whitehouse, but by the international community.
Besides, OUR veteran's day is ARMISTICE day celebrating the end of world war 1.

Our Veterans Day used to be Armistice Day, now it is meant to commemorate all Veterans.

The first Veterans Day under the new law was observed with much confusion on October 25, 1971. It was quite apparent that the commemoration of this day was a matter of historic and patriotic significance to a great number of our citizens, and so on September 20th, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed Public Law 94-97 (89 Stat. 479), which returned the annual observance of Veterans Day to its original date of November 11, beginning in 1978. This action supported the desires of the overwhelming majority of state legislatures, all major veterans service organizations and the American people.

Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Defend his oversight if you please, but as a Veteran I am of the opinion that he does what is best politically for him. The Vets come in somewhere after I'm sorry for my country tours.

Many times. When the President is not there, there is a high-ranking sub, such as the VP, SECDEF or other Cabinet member. Cheney stood in for Bush II more than once on both Veterans and Memorial Days. You can look it up.

This is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that a President is not present at Arlington for wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns (correct name, BTW).

I'm NOT a Democrat, but is it possible he is leaving AFTER the ceremony? Particularly after the Ft, Hood affair? But others are right, too. He would not be the only one to have "skipped" out.

I'm sure the folks in Afganistan and Iraq understand your position. What really galls most of us is the delay in following his chosen General's strategy for a chance of success in the war zones. This in conjunction with the "slight" is the primary reason for the discontent.

From what I have heard he will be on a Military Base/Post somewhere on Nov 11th and then leaving from there. It takes take a day to get from the US to Singapore and with the conference starting that weekend he is on a tight time schedule. If he was there in Singapore on that day, they do have a BIG ceremony as they are a Commonwealth country.

Obama to attend memorial.

AP) President Barack Obama will attend a memorial service for those killed at Thursday's mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Friday said a service will be scheduled at the convenience of the families who lost loved ones during one of the largest mass shooting on a military base. Gibbs says a service has not yet been scheduled and it would be planned around the families' schedules, not the president's.

Thirteen people were killed and 30 others injured in the shooting rampage at the Texas Army post on Thursday. The suspected shooter is an Army psychiatrist; his motive remains unclear.

Gibbs said that a memorial service is keeping Obama's schedule next week in flux.

Obama is scheduled to leave for Asia on Wednesday but wants to attend a memorial before starting the 10-day trip. Gibbs says the White House would not rule out delaying the trip because of the service.

Remember GWG, the world is round and he will eventually return to make your and my life wonderful. He just needs an ego boost after a few weeks of bad news. Besides, he may have some down time to contemplate what to do with the the General's strategy for Afganistan.
