OK, I am sick and tired of the stupid solutions to this global warming crisis. I am one when I use a +/- matrix will err on the side of doing something to solve what I believe is a manufactured crisis called global warming. OK, I will accept it is an inevitability. I am an engineer and consequently so sick and tired hearing political solutions to what is a scientific and engineering problem. Let’s have engineers solve this.
1) None of this carbon tax credit baloney. It’s a way for money to be made without doing anything to benefit the environment. This is an engineering problem, not a problem with finance. 2) Place solar on roof tops first in SW cities creating a large solar urban grid. 3) Build up wind generation so it can provide 3% of the nation’s power supply. 4) Utilize wave power. We have 4K miles of coast line 5) Now for the Politically incorrect moves a. Build nuclear to the point of 60% of the national supply. France uses 80% nuclear. b. Drill, baby drill for oil c. Use western (Utah) coal, which is low sulfer and lower in CO2 emissions. 6) As to domestic consumption reduction a. OK, place existing homes and structures on an energy audit, but do this constructively. No fines, allow for tax credits to double pane, insulate, new appliances, etc. existing structures. Allow time for people to afford the conversion. b. Squiggley bulbs, fine and dandy. 7) Transportation a. Build out urban transit systems (subways, light rail, etc) b. Develop a high speed mag lev train system, capable of speed greater than 440 mph. No more placing burdens on the American public! I welcome comments. |

ok. a couple of questions. you claim that carbon tax credit is "baloney" because it's an This is an engineering problem, not a problem with finance. Why would companies fix the engineering problem without a financial reason to do so? and two...why is a tax credit ok for homes and structures to upgrade to me energy efficient appliances/insulation/etc...ok when a credit for businesses to comply with emission reduction not ok? |

Let's see we have a financial crisis such as the world and us have never seen thanks to the banking queen and others and you want to impose another tax on american busineses when they are taxed to the eyeballs already.
I would respectfully suggest you get a clue!!!!! |

I've been saying that for years. It was President Carter that put the kibosh on the atom. I find that strange considering he was a nuclear engineer and served on atomic submarines. Obviously he knew the benefit of nuclear power and he also knew, properly built and run they're safe. That being the case the only reasonable explanation is that he was swayed by some unknown force. What makes it so sad is that with American know how, had we been allowed to go forward with nuclear power generation, by now the nuclear situation would be very different. Two main factors are most important in considering whether or not to build a grid of nuclear generating stations. The first is safety. Horror stories like The Chernobyl disaster rightfully frighten people. Chernobyl was a poorly built incompletely run accident waiting to happen. There is no comparison between the crude reactors Russia produced and the well designed, carefully built reactors produced here. The very worst incident to take place at any American reactor occurred at the Three Mile Island generating station. There was a small amount of radioactive steam released. The maximum amount of radiation anyone was exposed to was about the amount received during a full set of dental x-rays. Sadly the incident was blown out of proportion by the news hungry media. The second factor is that of “hot ash” disposal. It’s true that our current reactors do produce significant amounts of radioactive waste. Had we been allowed to go forth, by now at the very least we’d be building Breeder reactors that produce no hot ash. It’s even possible that, by now we would have such things as Fusan reactors that would be far more efficient and cheaper to build. All of this was short circuited by President Carter for reasons, unknown. How come I pressed "One for English" and still can't understand a word the dude is saying? |

Because the carbon credits are a freebie given to the businesses and under this new bill, the average homeowner could be liable for administrative civil penalties amounting to thousands of dollars if their homes do not pass inspection under new federal building codes. There's a difference here. I would suggest to provide a tax cedit for both. But, under this bill, the average American could be liable for fines while businesses who do contribute to CO2 get off scott free. I believe this thing is a manufactured crisis, which tawodi, would claim get a clue. This Waxman bill is an undue burden on the average American and will result in a doubling of ebergy costs over the next couple of years, a burden many cannot assume. As to the carbon credits, under the bill, they are given to large concerns and not small ones. So, if you have a small and upcoming business, you will be required to purchase carbon tax credits on the Chicago exchange. If you are large, you will seel your tax credits. This places small and upcoing businesses at a burden over corporations, such as GM who will be provided these stupid credits. |

Carbon tax credits are a shame - just a "get out of jail free" card for pollution, probably encouraging rather than discouraging or reducing pollution...
As to global warming, this is the first year in 20 that Utah did not hit 100 degrees in June. We have almost reached our 14 inches of moisture per year with 6 months yet to go - If this is global warming, bring it on - - Wandering and Wondering |

Why is it, homes built 50+ years ago were made of better quality materials and workmanship? The ones built today can barely stand up to a slight breeze. These new building codes, and shyster builder's need to go. Doesn't answer your question. I just ask, because federal building codes was brought up.

What global warming? The earth is actually getting cooler, but of course that doesn't help the agenda of the left wing loonies.

I can't see either Canada or Russia getting too upset about global warming, other than that everyone will be moving there - -

We need to outlaw UN intervention, in ANY of its pernicious forms, no matter HOW the UN attempts to justify the 'needs' for meddlesome intervention in US or western nations' sovereignty and/or legislative mandates, etc. The Biosphere Reserve Act, and the World Heritage Site agendas are very subtle and sneaky ways for the UN to gain a quasi-legal oversight foothold(read; CONTROLLING INFLUENCE) that affronts, flouts and circumvents any U.N.- targeted nation's sovereignty, and its ability to direct and control its own internal affairs autonomously, without bungling, hysteria-driven UN INTERFERENCE. The wasteful, corrupt UN does NOT know what is best for ITSELF, let alone anyone else! This whole 'global warming' scheme is one way to tax the living $#%@ out of anyone and everyone without any legitimate authority, accountability or oversight. This is the WORST thing to come along since the dinosaurs died out. For everything the West does to 'appease' the tree huggers, there are poor, developing, disadvantaged countries that are NOT about to 'change' their long-established ways of life for ANYONE or ANYTHING, period! Every day in Indonesia and many other parts of the world, MILLIONS of people BURN combustibles to cook their food. Does anyone think these people are about to STOP harvesting and burning wood or other carbon-based fuels just because "Fat Pig" Al Gore & Co. is going apoplectic about it? Get real! NOTHING we do here in the West to reduce pollution, etc, means a hill of beans to some primitive tribespeople in the deep jungles of Malaysia, Myanmar or Madagascar, who just want to EAT! Tell them they "CAN'T" burn wood, etc, to cook, and see how well they take that bad 'advice'! The vital Amazon rain forest is being harvested and cleared at the phenomenal rate of some 5ACRES A MINUTE! We have AL Gore & Co. out and about, telling Americans how BAD and EVIL they all are for being advanced, modernized folks. Why isn't that fat pig sweathog Al Gore down in the hot, humid, insect-infested Amazon Basin with the anacondas, pythons and pirhanas, DOING SOMETHING POSITIVE about the elimination of the earth's rain forest "lungs"? No, he'd rather RUIN the United States and Western nations with his onerous "carbon tax craziness" to make his fast-expanding girth and big bank accounts even fatter than they already are! Enough is enough! We've dropped emissions from vehicles and most other sources over 90% since 1970--90%!!--how much MORE do the implacable "tree huggers" want, and at what ever-higher cost to us all? They haven't footed ANY of the costly bills so far, even though it has been THEIR agenda that has been implemented and forced upon the rest of us. All the expensive 'smog control' devices on cars and in factories and businesses have made a very small group of people and government agencies very, very wealthy, at the high cost to everyone else. I'm fed up with the radical ecoterrorists and rabid tree huggers never having to pay for any of this. It's high time THEY start footing the expensive bills, (they have PLENTY of money---they've subtly STOLEN it from the rest of us for YEARS!) or else BACK OFF and go live in a CAVE somewhere with no power, etc. Junk your big SUVs and WALK to work. Get a REAL life! Leave the rest of us ALONE, and just BE GONE! FAR away!

I have strong words for Al Gore & Co...and strong feelings about being lied to and misled by such greedy, dishonest "climate change clowns". With Al Gore having over $100 million and getting more all the time through outright deceit and artiface, I have every right to call him and his climate change crooks onto the carpet, and to demand; 1) rock-solid, irrefutable substantiation of their clearly biased, 'fixed' "data" 2) complete and consistent accountability for ALL of the funds they keep on raking in and pocketing, like frenzied sharks and pirhanas. These "fright merchants" need to be effectively pinned down and PROSECUTED, punished heavily for their criminal campaign against modern societies and humanity. The only 'winners' in this mess so far are the fear-mongering, radical tree hugger eco-hooligans and their cronies. Enough is enough. It's high time the tables be turned, and they all are forced to pay the skyrocketing price for their onerous and restrictive agenda.
