Actually, the Declaration of Independence was presented to the Continental Congress on July 3rd for review, and was tentatively accepted, but the formal signing was the next day - - so this day is pretty important, too!!

By the way, 3 July in the anniversary of the bloodiest day of fighting at Gettysburg - -

July 4th, 1826, both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died - -


July 4th, 1863 was the day that Lee finally decided to give up at Gettysburg and start back south...

July 4th, 1863 was the day Vicksburg finally surrendered to General Grant, giving the Mississippi pretty much to the Union, and cutting the South in half, denying it the resourced of points West...

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
