I mentioned earlier in this thread that I often visit a website that is for owners of bikes like mine, late 70's and early 80's Yamaha 1100's.

I thought I would post a link to this inspiring story. A guy named "Sailor" who I believe was a US Navy Vet. He was trying to get his bike running so he could have one more ride before he died. Two guys from the website, not knowing him personally, drove hours to his home in CA, got his bike running and he had that last ride. Photos are posted.

Sailor recently passed. Frown

(this link is to that Yamaha website and the discussion about Sailor's last ride)

”This thread should stay here as long as this site exists.

That way, whenever any of us are having a bad day and questioning, "Does anyone in this world ever think of anyone but themselves anymore?" we can come back here and see the answer...."Yes, those people do still exist."

Whisper this is a sad thread at (too many) times. . .

quote:
Sailor's death

To all of you that have followed this thread -- thank you for your kind wishes and thoughts --
Sailor died Thursday, February 19th in the early afternoon.
In the last week of his life, the cancer started to attack his brain -- but he successfully kept it at bay until Thursday morning.
Wednesday night he was alert but weak; lying in bed -- but still wanted to keep busy - So I brought him his drill and a water pump that he was drilling out a broken bolt from -- metal shavings and drill bits amongst the sheets - but it didn't matter he was having fun. His last meal was rootbeer icecream -- eaten between bouts of drilling

By Thursday morning, the cancer finally got the best of him -- he was restless and disoriented -- we administered sedatives and painkillers under hospice directive. He quietly stopped breathing around 1PM, lying on the couch in our houseboat.
Many birds flew by as he died -- their wings filling the air. We smudged and prayed to encourage his journey.
Kat

Don – I’m sorry for your loss. . .

One of my co-workers, and fellow Squid just bought a 2008 Triumph Rocket (another story). I forwarded him a mission email for last Saturday as he’s been looking for “excuses” to ride. He went, broken hearted but will return. This morning I presented him with a ‘mission complete’ pin and pictures.

On March 7th I went to the funeral of an American hero that paid the ultimate sacrifice. His name was Raymond J. Munden, SFC US Army. He was killed on February 16th of this year.

I can't tell you how good it made me feel when I came around the corner by the Church and saw the line up of Patriot Guard Rider's holding American flags, standing shoulder to shoulder at parade rest. I could tell they have respect for one of our fallen commrads, and their pain in their eyes when Raymond's family walked by them.

They stood tall and proud as we all went in and came out. Never saying a word or expecting praises.... One of the finest group of people this country has to offer.

I give you all a sharp Marine Corps salute for the job you did at SGT Munden's funeral.

YOU ARE AMERICA! THANK YOU
