Anyone know the history of what happened to the 6/52 ADA DSP in Wurzburg Germany ? I had heard or read they had pulled out in the late 80's I was there from 80-82. I got out as a Sp4,24L. I looke at google earth and found just a parking lot. There's a german girl too, I'd like to find from that era.
That can be a long row to hoe. Some get lucky and turn up gold right off. Others, like me, (of course my army time was way before the time you're talking - 7/62-7/65) look for years and, maybe, find a clue or two here and there. Good idea, that Google Earth - I tour the old sites and towns from my time in Germany now and then.
What can I say, you start and follow any and all leads that materialize. Mil.com and other similar sites - I've even found some good stuff on classmates.com - can pay off. Google is your friend - even beyond G Earth. Sometimes a simple search of the old unit will turn something up...or related units/search terms. I've even communicated with a couple German (and American) user groups...or , believe it or not, Facebook. The journey starts with the first step. Just keep movin.
Hi, Buddy. I was there from early 1983 to early 1987, PCSing back to the States at that time. Just as I was arriving the unit was being re-classified as a separate battery (it sure was big enough!),but still part of 6/52. Shortly thereafter, the unit was re-designated as the 569th Ordnance Company and had a different chain of command up to 32nd AADCOM in Darmstadt. From our perspective nothing really changed; our workdays stayed the same. Does anybody remember 1st Sergeant Nathan Clarks, "The Burgermeister", who even after he was promoted to Sergeant Major, got himself assigned to a billet in Wurzburg so he wouldn't have to leave his adopted home town? Funny. I wonder if the Army still works that way.
I was the maintenance officer from 1981 to 1983 at the DSP/569th Ord Company. I made CW3 at the same time Nate made SGM and we both moved up to the 69th Brigade Support Element (BSE). Nate retired and went to work for Motorola in Germany and I retired about the same time (1987) and went to work for Raytheon in North Alabama. I am fully retired now. The 569th stayed in Wurzburg and I was told it deployed to Saudi during Desert Storm. All US HAWK Units have been deactivated.

I was with 5/52 ADA(another damned army ) We use to be 2/43 until we were re-flagged to 5/52. The unit is now at Ft Bliss,Tx.
I worked for for SGM Clarks in 1985 and have fond memories of him. He was a nice guy and really loved the Army. If I recall correctly, he had been with 6/52 his entire military carrer. By the way, do you still have the motorcycle Chief Nelson?
