Iam 24 yrs old just finished a municpal police academy now iam working part-time, full-time positions are very hard to find, I always wanted to join either Marines or Army but not sure which one. Do you think it would have alot better benefits then what iam doing now working only part-time police jobs?

Of course! There are many benefits in the military that's not in the civilian sector! I recommend the Marine Corps, but only if your heart's in it and you REALLY want to do it!

Not yet. Wink

But, I'm going to MEPS hopefully in about 3 weeks to get my physical and get sworn in. It's my life goal. If you're interested and have questions you want to ask, to the the Marine Corps Forum, and go to the Wannabe discussions. There's lots of helpful info on any questions you may have!

Welcome cop, yes the military has some good benefits. I agree with William , be sure you have a sincere desire to serve. If not, you will be disappointed!

Keep smiling, everyone will wonder what you've been up to!

Now is not the time to join any branch of the Military. Too PC , filled with brown nosers galore. IMO there are only two fields that are honorable that I would go into. 1. Investigator of Medicare fraud and ER doctor or Nurse.

I agree w/bergy in that it's not so important which branch you join, but that you are willing to give your all.

Of course that is true in every aspect of life. If it's not worth giving it the full shot, why even bother; you know??

These are my opinions. Yours may differ.

Cop6613, have you considered Reserves or Guard? If you want to become a cop, it might help in going into an MP unit. You might have more of a chance to keep trying to become a civilain LEO as you get military time under your belt.
Just a thought, good luck.

One thing to remember...

we're not hurting for enlistees at the present. The Army is even bringing back some parts of the old 'QMP' days. If you have 20 years and you are an E-7 or above and you ain't making the grade or if you have ANY item such as:

1. Fail APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test)
2. Relief For Cause
3. BAD NCOER

among some other things, you get an all expense paid trip to the house. HAPPY RETIREMENT!!

PART of this is to make room for some of the guys that enjoy this shiz to be able to move up and make a difference instead of having someone that is 'less than desireable' camping out in a leadership position that desperately needs a person who cares about the job to fill it.

The above being said, don't be discouraged if the recruiter isn't wining and dining you for your autograph on the dotted line.

entertain other possibilities such as Reserves, Guard, Air Force, Navy, etc. Be flexible.

If you aren't sure might I suggest you look at some of the Civil Service/other goverment agencies that hire for LE positions. i.e. Department of Interior, BLM, DONHR, etc.

It's not that there is no God or that He isn't listening. You're probably just asking the wrong questions.

You forgot MEB. I never received a bad grade card or any of the above. The reason I never got looked at for MSG was because of a medical condition. I served 21 years, made SFC and I'm not embarrassed. The MEB retired me.

Got money for everything but "VETERANS" Same old story!
