Does anyone know what this is. It is a large amount in our checking account. I just saw it when I was online in our checking account.

Damn, I was wondering where I put that, send it back to me, lol.

US TREASURY 220 VA BENIFIT - that is what my monthly Disability Payment is coded and shows on my bank statement when I get paid each month. Also when I was a student worker, my pay for that job would come in under the same coding.

Didn't your husband go through a rating re-eval not long ago? Did you get anything in the mail saying it increased? Could be the lump sum covering the months it takes them to get around to his paperwork.

Dennis got tired of the bullshiit. He did not finish his re-eval. He was never on VA disability rating. He is still getting his retirement checks from DFAS.

Cindy ... my bank statement shows my disability deposit as US TREASURY 220 / Direct Deposit" and my retirment RAS shows an additional amount as "VA WAIVER".

Are you sure his disability package was never finished? Sounds like someone may have submitted it anyway. If he didn't complete his multiple eval Dr appointments, the VA may have simply submitted what info they had on him pending further review of what was claimed but not yet eval'd ??

If it is his disablity, you should be getting a letter soon enough ... my letter was behind the first deposit by 2-3 weeks. Although like you, I wasn't really expecting a deposit and it was actually tax time ... So I thought my deposit was my refund.

Easy way to find out ... call this number to see. 1-877-222-8387 (VETS)

Got my fingers crossed for you Smile

I was talking to another Marine friend on the phone just now. He said the money in our checking account was back pay for disa. from the VA. Now, if that is true, can DFAS get that money back from Dennis since it has already been paid to him. This is double dipping isn't it?

On his DFAS mypay, it shows VA WAIVER, deducting 601.00 from his retirement pay. Is that what you are saying to me?

I'm not the xpert, but I wouldn't believe that they can ... retirement and VA are two separate accounts and agencies.

If you receive VA compensation for the same period and do not receive concurrent receipt, you have a VA waiver on your DFAS pay. If DFAS over paid you, they will recoup the pay at some time down the road.

I read your posts and you are very unclear. I answered here, but do not usually come to this forum. If you have VA questions, please address then in the Veterans forums.

If your husband is getting less than about a 20% or so disability (That could be 30%) then you don't get extra but the money is not taxable. I have a 10% disability so I get an amount of slightly more than $100 per month from the VA but then DFAS takes out the same amount. So roughly speaking I get $1200+/year tax free. If my disability was greater and met the right level, then DFAS would not withhold any money.

I feel that the pay a Veteran/Retiree of any Military Service receives should NEVER be TAXED, WITHHELD or WAIVERED. The fact that they have ANY kind of math involved that reduces the amount received is reprehensible and should NEVER happen.
It seems that whenever they want to reduce something to increase the benefit of their "general squander fund" they use fancy math to that end. Veterans should never be a part of any math that reduces what they receive for their service.

We got the paperwork in the mail yesterday, the 16th. Dennis got 40% after fighting with the VA since 2007. Most of the 40% was for PTSD...

The large sum of money that was direct deposit into our account is ours to keep, tax free, I hope.Smile

Now appeal immediately to disagree with their findings for more of an increase. Demand higher rates for everything. Dennis deserves more than that for his service so don't slow down or stop now. If he is unable to work then a un-employability income at a higher rating should be considered.

Dennis is sick and tired of dealing with the VA so I don't think he is going to appeal it. I agree, every Nam vet, War Vet deserves more. It took them 3 fricken years to do this too. I also mentioned the CRSC, he said no. Smile

Infact, he got tired of the BS, he quit going. We thought they would just stop everything when he quit going, but hell, they didn't. The Texa VA is so stupid....

Wait a few weeks and then try again. He should keep that claim going till he is satisfied with the results. It is in his best interest to have a good rate established before major health problems hit due to aging, as some may have already become a problem the urgency becomes more apparent.
At 100% a veteran will not pay for the prescriptions or other medical care and it can provide for better health in the later years. If you think Dennis meets the criteria of not being able to work then I would seriously urge him to continue the claim for a higher rating.

CRSC is not the VA, it is DFAS. Much simpler and PTSD is combat related. Download the form and fill it out, have him sign it.

And if he is happy with the amount, do not appeal. Down the road he may apply for an increase if it gets worse.

RetiredMarineWife;
You tell your husband not to give up. The Majority of Federal Employees are lazy and don't know every part of their jobs, hence no anual tests that they should be required to take to show proficency in their job skills. Keep good records and make copies of everything. I know your husband is fed up but he has to understand that there are more Veterans out their that lie, cheat, and steal to get benefits then there are good, honest Vets. Sooner or later someone is going to grant him what he is entitled to. Good luck and God bless you both.
