Cri Cri on floats? I want a Breezy on floats BAD!

A friend who flies with the Areoshell team has one that I have flown in several times. He has tried to sell me the thing more than once, last time was last Saturday. I am damn sure tempted to buy it and put a set of floats on it......

Here's my friend's 1943 Lockheed Model 18 LodeStar former Navy Troop Transport, N613LS, now an executive conversion formerly owned by LoneStar Brewing Co of Texas.

Here's my friend's 1943 Lockheed LodeStar Model 18 former Navy Troop Transport, N613LS. Lone Star Brewery converted it to an executive interior aircraft with STOL wing mods.

The starboard/right hand Wright Cyclone R-1820 1200-HP radial engine. Check out the factory Lockheed emblem on the engine cowling.

Here's a side view of Lockheed LodeStar Model 18 N631LS. This is REAL flying...no fly-by-wire here. You FEEL everything when you fly this kind of aircraft. Those were the days...this is one of the few flying/airworthy Lockheed LodeStars left in the world. I've flown in it. Owned/flown/maintained by a retired 35-year TWA Senior Captain and licensed A&P. What a RIDE!

Here's another front view of the Wright 9-cylinder 1200-hp "Cyclone" radial engine. The big Hamilton-Standard props really bite into the air...the thrust at full pitch/power is something else to experience.

The bright, late afternoon Arizona sun made taking these shots a bit of a challenge. Here's a right side view of the tail section and the rear fuselage of the 1943 LodeStar Model 18 airplane.

Those were great shots Rusty! Thanks. There is a company here at ELP still flying old C-54's for cargo.

Sarge, my father was a WW-II pilot, then got on board @ Eastern in early 1946 as a Captain for another 35 years...retired in 1981. My father flew Eastern's early DC-3's and Lockheed Electras and Connies, all the way up to the big 747s they had for a few months. My mother was a "stew"...so enjoying airplanes and flying is sort of genetically 'in my blood', ya know?!! Big Grin Beer Popcorn

Rusty, go rent "The High and the Mighty". That is a hoot in a retro sort of way, a great movie and a great storyline. I got a copy that has a documentary of the way it was back when your Mom and Pop(I say that with respect)made the skies friendly.

Eastern's employees were a "family" of sorts. I get that impression from the EAL retirees I run across from time to time. Much different work and industry atmosphere today...it's more like; "At Most,FEAR" for your job... Wink right?

As much as I like kids, and driving buses, I'd NEVER have that job...there's a noose hanging from the roof of the bus just waiting to be used...you just can't see it. But, it's there. Try to maintain some semblance of discipline and order on the bus, and the noose magically appears! With your name on it! Tightened by the School Board or any number of eager, liberal participants...lawyers, politicians, cops, you name it! Frown Violin Gun Frown
