Please don't tell me the best motivation is a bullet coming at you. Or how the drill stg made you roll in the sand why pouring water on you.

motivation of a group of people or self is welcome. Any stories are just as welcome as long as they aren't "the best motivation is a boot up your azz" any tip's on motivation etc.

In one word ~ Attitude!!
You can have a good day or a bad day; the choice is yours to decide and accomplish.
Why do you wake-up in the morning? Is it for you or for others?

Smile Keep Sowing!
Everything in life operates off of seedtime and harvest.

But a seed will lay dormant until it is placed in the right conditions.
You have to plant that seed and water it in order for it to grow.

What are the seeds you have in your hand?
It can be as simple as the seed of a smile that will produce happiness in your life.

choose joy each day

Without personal motivation... something that comes from deep within YOU.... not from Oprah, not from Redbook magazine, not from the nicotine patch... nothing is ever going to happen. You may *talk* a lot, but there is never going to be a REAL change, not for long. No diet is gonna work, etc., without YOU being in the driver's seat.

You have to take a very honest look at yourself and your life and think about what it is that you REALLY want.

It all goes from there.

From my own point of view, don't do it without the Lord. Pray about everything.

Iz my 2 cents.....

This question needs to be asked on School Research, Surveys & Projects ...

A listening ear, a caring heart, an open mind and an extended hand may be all I can offer, but it is yours without charge or Judgment.

I posted In the GD so it would still be a open forum. Not just on research but more of discussion on what drives people.

world........ what MissU2 and Cat said are the keys. I once went through a block of training that I questioned "why the hell am I putting myself through this"? There was no way I was going to quit - "Attitude".
Good luck.

Good ole American competitive attitude helps, too: Always wanting to finish at or near the front, always wanting to be the best at every task, always wanting to be with those who have that same desire, always wanting to instill that desire in those that need it, always refusing to let team mate fall down, or stop or quit or accept less of an effort than they can give, always refusing to be satisfied - -

Why? Duty, Honor, Country -

Something like that - -

Having good leaders that are motivated will always motivate the troops. If your leaders look like someone pee'd in their Cherios, then you have problems!
Little things can keep motivation going, heck when you are in the field, just letting your "guys" change out socks or take a small break or brush their teeth can raise the motivation some.

HOw can you come onto a vets forum & asked this question, but then restrict the question to no, such & such types of motivation?

Coming off the cattle truck in basic with about a hald dozen drill sgt.s screaming though was quite motivating to help you give 110%!! Cool

Attitude goes a long way, no doubt! However,
any individual needs to discover WHAT his desires are- Your attitude will lead you to search for, and hold on to, that one thing you honestly desire- Whatever it may be (security, a place to belong, a valued team-member, even obtaining a specific material object).
While 67Nov offered the basic, initial military motivator, I feel that it is only a discovery of youth, on the way to what that youth thought he desired. Goals and motivators change with time, for most people. As a youth matures, his motivation can change to meet the maturing mind..... effects of hormones begin to fade as maturity and stability begin to take hold. With that change, most peoples motivation changes, as well.
Speaking for myself, my one big motivator (which has remained constant with maturity), has been the challenge: "You can't do that"! I will always go far and beyond all reasonable attempts to prove to "you" that I CAN accomplish the given task/goal!

My humble opinion.........

If you have the ability and the intestinal fortitude, you have a foot up on those who don't!

If you believe in your self and you don't let others discourage you, you can do it!

Keep smiling, everyone will wonder what you've been up to!

Got a neighbor who has one like the one on the left. He don't really need it because of a hip replacement, so he lets all the little neighbor kids drive it around. They have a blast on it - but you got to definitely look both ways before stepping out on the sidewalk here!! Eek Wink Big Grin

I should be thanking YOU, Mikey!! And guys like gunny, too..... you've set the bar pretty darned high, for us young-whippers. It's all we can do to hang on to the example which you set, and hope we can make it to the end! Wink

I did some time, and, did what I could do. My life in uniform was far from perfect, but, I stepped up and traded my blues in for cammies.... and did some pretty wild stuff! The one thing I always came away with was: There are some pretty darned amazing heroes "out there", and I was honored to have worked with a few!!
THANK YOU, for your service, sacrifice, and most appreciated- your example! Applause
