This is unreal !!!!!

Trillion dollar+ budget deficit for the fiscal year 2009 and the money keeps flowing! Must be ultra income redistribution!

I couldn't believe this, so I went to the web site and learned that about half of the states offer these Obama phones.

I had a former employee call me earlier today inquiring about a job, and at the end of the conversation he gave me his phone number. I asked the former employee if this was a new cell phone number and he told me yes this was his "Obama phone." I asked him what an "Obama phone" was and he went on to say that welfare recipients are now eligible to receive (1) a FREE new phone and (2) approx 70 minutes of FREE minutes every month. I was a little skeptical so I Googled it and lo and behold he was telling the truth. TAX PAYER MONEY IS BEING REDISTRIBUTED TO WELFARE RECIPIENTS FOR FREE CELL PHONES. This program was started earlier this year. Enough is enough. The very foundations that this country was built on are being shaken. The age old concepts of God, family, and hard work have flown out the window. You can click on the link below to read more about the "Obama phone".just have a barf bag ready.

No surprise there, the tax payer foots the bill for the leechs who contribute nothing,
but take everything.

Keep smiling, everyone will wonder what you've been up to!

Does this give-away extend to people just on disability, not welfare?

If they are legally disabled, probably not!

It indeed was started before Obama, but it is still wrong. I can see discounted land lines for a home that is way under poverty level for emergency/local use, but cell phones with free minutes? Maybe just a cell phone with no free minutes to be able to call 911, but not free talk time to anyone or the other frills that are offered. A disabled phone will still dial 911 even with the account no longer active. Just give those out and let them foot the bill if they want the beanies.

The Lifeline program is offered as part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The money comes out of a tax you pay on your phone bill, not the General Fund.

The Low Income Program of the Universal Service Fund, which is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), is designed to ensure that quality telecommunications services are available to low-income customers at just, reasonable, and affordable rates.

On April 29, 2004, the FCC released the Lifeline and Link Up Order (FCC 04-87) further modifying the Low Income Program. The new order expanded the eligibility criteria for qualifying consumers to include an income-based criterion and participation in National School Lunch free lunch program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) as additional criteria. By expanding the eligibility criteria to include an income-based criterion, the FCC estimated that 1.17 million to 1.29 million additional households that do not participate in the program-based criteria would enroll in Lifeline based on the new criteria.

To find out if someone is eligible this government sponsored web site is available.

http://www.universalservice.or...ibility/default.aspx

FCC Site on the program
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/lllu.html

And a quote from the NY Times:
But a decades-old federal program called Lifeline, which subsidizes phone service for the poorest in the nation, has recently been expanded to offer limited, pre-paid cell phone service, the New York Time reports. Companies like Sprint, AT&T, and Tracfone are getting in on the program, and some insiders are referring to the grossly underprivileged as the providers' only untapped U.S. market. "And the race is on to get them," Nielsen analyst Roger Entner told the New York Times.

The program, which costs the government about $10 per month, per person, offers qualifying individuals a free cell phone and about 68 minutes of service. Since November, the number of people taking advantage of the service has doubled to 1.4 million, reflecting the growing number of people eligible for such assistance due to the downturn of the economy.

So this was offered under the Democratic Clinton Administration and signed into law under the Comrade Obama Administration. I just wonder if Obama has the ability to send messages to everyone who has one of these phones as a method to garner support for his programs/policies??? Just a thought.

Ya know I saw a transcript of a recorded call the other day on some news program where some woman was asking where to go to get her "Obama bucks" I thought it was a joke.....silly me, it was REAL!! There are people out there who think they can get money from Obama's private stash!! I swear, if I hadn't seen and heard it my self, I would never have believed it!

Not certain on plans in other states ... but up here in Alaska the plan is NOT only for sissyfibrosis welfare users. It also goes to ANYONE receiving some sort of govt check ... to include Vets receiving VA Disability

The website just says low income folks ... but if you dive in and ask an operator, they tell about other programs.

I had thought about looking into it myself, but just the thought made me cringe ... my families cell bill is all wrapped up with my GCI Cable, home phone and that nasty bill runs me $357 a month!

I saw that as well and had the same reaction. Totally unfrickingbelievable! That woman had no clue and couldn't care less where the money was coming from; it was nothing but gimme! gimme! gimme!
