I have an older brother that has a "congenital(sp?) heart disease", he was born with only 1 chamber in his heart (there is supposed to be 4), and the doctors made another one out of a bag that supposed to be around the heart (not really sure what the procedure was), so he now has 2 chambers. He had 2 open heart surgeries by the time he was 6 and the doctors said he possibly wouldn't live to be 10 with or without the surgery and he would be on daily medication for the rest of his life, he's had to go to MUSC yearly since then. He is now 22, and is off the heart medication, he has high blood pressure that is kept in line with medication, other than that, he's very healthy. My father was career military so we both had insurance throughout our childhood, he got it because he was born with the disease and my dad was military when he was born. However, he is now at the age where his Tricare has been cut off. He still has to go to MUSC every two years for a check up and to get a few expensive tests ran. I was just wondering if anybody knew of any type of insurance he could get because he can't afford the appointments or tests but he has to go, it could end up being life or death. Normal insuracne companies won't insure him because it was a pre-existing condition, does anyone know of any insurance companies that will insure a person with his case?

Have him go get Medicad and SS. That will cover him the rest of his life.

he's tried all of them and none of them will give him anything. I'm not sure why they said no to the Medicaid and SS, but they told him that since he does work and is able to work, he cannot get disability. Could it have anything to do with the laws in the state that he lives in? That just popped into my mind. Is it different in different states?

you got me on that one.

If he is working they won't.

Get a doctor to say he can't work or it's over.

Well... he does get paid under the table, so technically he has no proof that he does work. He also is supposed to go back to MUSC this fall sometime so maybe he can get his doctor to say he can't work. I'll have to call him later and talk to him about it. I just hope he can find something because he has to go to the doctor and he's my only sibling so I want to help keep him around as long as possible.
