I was just wondering, I just got married, and I am leaving in December for Basic. Since I am married, will I get housing, or will I have to live in the Barracks until I make rank, and than move my wife to live with me?

Suggest you post your question here Military Marriage & Military Relationships ...

The short answer is no accompanying spouses until after basic and most AITs. After that it all depends on your duty station and availability. You wife will need to be entered into the Defense Enrollment Eligibility (DEERS)

Talk to your recruiter, he should have all the information. Your wife needs to talk to the recruiter with you. I hope she is ready to be an Army wife. It is a very tough roll.

Here's a forum that she should check out:
Military Spouses and Friends

We wish both of you the very best.

Keep us posted.

A listening ear, a caring heart, an open mind and an extended hand may be all I can offer, but it is yours without charge or Judgment.

Yep and on top of all that, she was active duty military which made things a little easier in the early days.

Well you get a good deal.....

Too many people in the military get married for all the wrong reasons. I hope you are not one of these!

This is the area I had a hard time with when I was on my first and most of my second enlistments! I was single for my first nine and a half years in the military and was "STUCK IN THE BARRACKS OR LIVING ONBOARD THE SHIP"! I really had a hard time with it, especially when I made E-5 and a new (E-1, E-2 or E-3) checked in and was married and got to live out-in-town! Damn, who's more VALUABLE to the military? I felt it was a form of discrimination or punishment......just because you're not married you have to be STUCK in the barracks or onboard the ship! "Whatta deal"!

Don't get me going on this one! This topic really chapped my azz!

Hope your marriage can handle the military life. It is a entirely different environment than civilian life. Hope you both can handle separation!

You won't really experience barracks life much.....Lucky you! You won't be scutinized about how you live or how your floor or the bathroom (head in the Navy or latrine in the Army or AF) looks. "Room inspections" suck!

- Enjoy!

Bill, If I didn't know better ~ I'd think you were our son saying that....

He has the exact same feelings about the subject that you do but he said he would NOT get married just for that reason.

He actually said deployment was more what he expected Marine life to be like as opposed to living on base in the states. He's not to crazy about that part. Frown Violin

Well, you will not have your wife with you at Basic Training and AIT. After that, depending on where you are going - you will (unless its deployment).
Make sure your wife is registered on DEERS as stated before. If she has questions, one of the greatest resources for spouses is "www.militaryonesource.com" - they can answer almost anything and help you out.

My mom got married at 18, Dad was 23. They were married for 46 years, Dad died of a heart attack at the age of 69. If not for that, they may have been celebrating their 67th Wedding Anniversary this year.
I do have a question for the OP. How old is your husband and is he also in the military?
