Internet Scam Continues to Target Military Families
Vince Patton, Director, CommunityOutreach, Military.com

It has been brought to our attention by many of our Military.com members, that certain individuals have been unlawfully soliciting business offering a ‘Telex hook up’ for people to connect with troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. These unlawful solicitations are done by individual(s) using the free offered Military.com email address, and are selling this fabricated equipment under many aliases. This supposed service is being offered to victims for hundreds to thousands of dollars.

These individual(s) tell military members and their spouses that installation of Telex equipment will be done as soon as possible via Satelite 180000KHz. They ask for hundreds to thousands of dollars up front. They usually ask the victim(s) to submit their payment via Western Union.

To date these are the names and email addresses that we are aware of:

Paul Krekow
Hopkins Laggard
Sgt.Ronald H.L.
Sgt. Ronald Longway
Sgt.McCoral
Capt. Brad Thomas
Telex Dept.
Funmi Adekoya
Diana Arias
Brenda Morse

All of these email addresses mentioned have been locked, and no longer can be used. In addition, the content within these email accounts have been made available to law enforcement authorities. Unfortunately these accounts are difficult to trace, and in some cases appears that they may be originated from overseas locations.

Anyone who has had dealings with any of these individuals or email accounts listed should immediately go to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint website, and file a report. The site link is http://www.ic3.gov/

A reminder, any use of Military.com's free email service to conduct business is a violation of our Terms of User Agreement. Anyone who is found in violation of this agreement will have their Military.com email account terminated immediately, and expelled from membership without question.
