Readers: Help Our Troops
by Wendy Schibener

Every American has to take pride in our military forces. And – for a lot of us – the Marines occupy a special place in our hearts. So many of them have been in Iraq for so long, when we hear about something they need – something we can do to help – we respond. Now’s the chance for HUMAN EVENTS readers to do something right now.

HUMAN EVENTS recently received information that a fire in an area housing a Marine company destroyed the belongings of over 80 marines. Thankfully, no one was hurt. However, the men and women of 3/6 Lima Company lost everything they had except what was on their backs at the time. The fire completely destroyed the marines’ equipment, clothes, toiletries, pictures from home, IPods, Laptops, and other comforts.

In a place as tough and alien as Iraq, having personal belongings is a great solace. Some of the small things help remind them of home, family and the freedoms they protect for us all.

So, readers, step in and help! Please send socks, underwear, toiletries, and any other comfort item that could cheer up these great men and women.

All donations can be sent to the address:

1st Lt Travis Bowden
3/6 Lima Company
Unit 73305
FPO AE 09509 3305

Please note that the whole Battalion will be coming home in November. So, please send out packages as soon as possible.

God Bless our Troops.

Jim, I think it would get there much much faster if you send the cash directly to the address listed in the article.

Cricket, I don't know, I am thinking cash is best, that way they can buy what they need directly in country. Besides, that way we guarantee that they don't get 1000 CDs and NO underwear, etc.

Thanks everyone. We are all FAMILY.

Don't send anything:

http://waronterrornews.typepad.com/home/2008/06/marines-need-yo.html

Internet relief efforts for troops that are both well paid and well supplied already are not something you should spend your money or time on, IMO. Frown

I can understand perhaps a small CARE package or something to that effect. The 1st LT should know better then to ask for personal belongings to be replaced.

If the fire is in a government facility (as it was) they are going to be issued new stuff or reimbursed for what was lost.
