I don't know about anyone else but I hear that President Obama is thinking of Max Cleland or Tammy Duckworth of the head of the VA. Personally, I would not want either one. Cleland has already served as the VA head and did so miserably in my opinion. Duckworth just does not seem to come across well in some of the interviews that I have seen. Both however are great Americans. I think that we need a Veteran from the grassroots. I can think of one or two people that I have met at the VA Hospital in Gainevill, Florida. These are real people who know the frustration of trying to deal with the VA health care system. The North Florida/South Georgia health care system is horrible. This comes from my own personal expirence. The health care is what needs to be addressed first because it has been bad since at least 1978 to the present. All you need to do is go to the VA hospital and simply watch! The Lake City Florida is deplorible. It is run like a nursing home.I would like to see Pres. Obama pick a veterans who has not been aided by being featured on news stories. I would love to hear anyones feedback on this. Those are great guys as is Jim Webb. But, this democrat from Texas has won more awards from veterans’ organizations than any other member of the house or senate. Not that the president elect is going to ask me, but any of them would be fine with me.

This is a .gov link so it can be a Hot Link.

I could go along with Mr. Webb getting a chace, but NOT Cleland or Duckworth.

I would gladly support Senator Webb for the position any day!

I don’t understand why some VA hospitals are better than others and agree with you about Lake City. I didn’t like the way I was being treated there and unloaded some. I was suddenly surrounded by security and haven’t been back. I’ve been in hospitals from Boston to Gainesville and currently go to Dublin where I’m treated much better and the doctors, nurses and staff genuinely seem concerned about my health. It’s also much cleaner than most VA hospitals I’ve been in. You have to give Max Cleland credit for his personal accomplishments but he didn’t show me much as a senator or as the Administrator of Veteran Affairs. In fact I believe the Carter Administration was among the bleakest times in VA history. I don’t know much about Senator Webb but it sounds like I need to do a little studying.

I can't speak to the inpatient care, I only go to the clinics. So far as the customer-facing aspects of the VA, it has turned around 180 degrees from 20-30 years ago. I was run out the first time I went years ago. (yes, I met the security staff). When I went to get my I.D. card I spoke with a Vet who had served in Vietnam, and he said he thought that was the last place he would ever work. Due to the bad experiences he had, he decided to go to work there to make it better. VAMC, Dayton, Ohio.

Jim Webb, affirmative.
Tammy Duckworth, affirmative.
Chet Edwards, affirmative.
