This week with the debates going on about schools giving 11 year old girls birth control without parental notification and such, saddens me.

This article is not in the states, but if you pay attn, America seems to like following trends.


Debate flies over 'sex play' in kindergartens

Norwegians woke up Tuesday morning to news that a respected Oslo pre-school teacher, backed by child psychologists, thinks children should be allowed to openly express their own sexuality, not least through sex play and games in the local day care centers known as barnehager, or kindergartens.

The vast majority of Norwegians send their children from the age of one to the kindergartens, where they spend their days until they begin school at age six.

Pia Friis, leader of the popular Bjerkealleen Barnehage in Oslo and a well-known pre-school educator, told newspaper Dagbladet on Tuesday that children should be allowed to express their own sexuality at day care centers. She doesn't want to stifle what comes naturally.

ETA-I know those who see nothing wrong with the two will say WE NEED this, for educational or protection purposes, but don't you think an 11,12,13,14 yro is too young to be having sex? I wonder if this disturbs people who are more "sexually free" if you will.

Sexual maturity comes later for children in our societies - it comes much earlier for children in some "non-western" societies. Much earlier.

However, pedophilia is another matter altogether.

I would not be surprised if it happens, we live in a sin crazed world.

It's in the upbringing.My son is twelve and we talk about everything,I have tried to have "the talk" with him and we decided when he feel's like smoochin,then we'll have the talk.Asked him again this summer and he said I'm not ready this year but probably next summer. Talk to your kid's folk's ,it's the best chance they'll have.

Dh and I are living in Portland ME right now b/c we PCS'ed here.
I a from CT and Dh is from NY(up state)we are traditionalists and conservates.

This has shocked allot of parents!
Personally my fealings are this...
The school system shouldn't have made a blanket form for being able to get treated in school.
There should have been a section on the permision slip staing by the parent what is okay and what isn't okay for the school to give to the children.

For example: I Jane doe allow my child John doe to be given asprin, tylenol, and bendryl in school and any other RX provied by Johns DR. given to the school for proper administration.
Any other medical decisions need to be directed to my or Johns fathers attention.

Instead they decided on a blanket policy with out a section for parental input, which may end up costing ppl their jobs.

Now as far a Birth controle is conserened not only is it a RX with serious considerations to be thought about personaly and medically; but it is also expencive and the tax payers should have to pay for it!

Children 11-17 and even some adults don't think past the present moment and getting what they want without thinking about consiquences. This is a serious decision to be made! You need to consult a DR who knows your family history and personal medical history before you should be allowed to give out a RX that is only what a responsible adult would recomend.

Now one of the excuses given for this action was "well we are really just concered for a small handful of children but the other childen in the school need to be given the same options." IF that really was the case call in the parents or guardians of this small group of children and tell them what is going on.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
Schools are not bound by student, admin confidencially! They need to start acting like it!

This is only going to fuel the fire regarding the age of consent law. 18, 17, 16, 15, 14……..how low can it go?

I have to agree that these ages are too young to be experimenting with sex! One of the factors leading to sexual exzploration, is, the media and games which kids are exposed to, today. Tag and hide-n-go-seek, have been replaced with video games like San Andres Fault, and others laced with violence and sexual inuendo. Television channels (150 and counting) are showing everything , these days, instead of the strict controls of the Three in my day (only two of which we could see). Parents, it seems, have gone missing, and when asked why little johnny and jane have access to these things, most claim freedom of rights as an explaination............

Sadly, environmental concerns have contributed to the issue as well. There are numerous medical studies out there (by respected colleges and institutions), which show girls are physically maturing at an earlier age. Most claim 2 years earlier than 15 years ago. Averages for first mensus are smoewhere between 11 and 12. Birth control justified?? Not in my book. More education, at a slightly earlier age?? You betcha!! HOWEVER, the education has to be aimed at young males and females, to be effective!!

That whole article sounds like an excuse for pedophiles. "Honest officer, that 5 year old came on to ME!, she WANTED it!"

There is NO excuse for pedophiles!! It is the Adult's job to teach and guide our children. Anyone who uses a position of power to exploit, needs to have a seperation (their privates seperated from the rest of their body)!!!!

Europeans perceive sex differently than we Americans do. If you don't believe that, next time you're in Germany pay attention to how a sex-toy shop with its wares in the windows might be "conveniently located" right next to a pharmacy or a supermarket. There are also the seedy live peep shows that might be located smack in the middle of what would pass for a strip mall over there. If exposing children to sexual awareness at a young age is their philosophy, I say let them go ahead for Americans, by and large are not inclined to go along with this in our country!
