The latest news is that Somali Pirates have seized a Suadi owned super tanker with a 2 million barrel of crude capacity. It was seized 450 NM southeast of Kenya , The farthest from Somalia an attack has taken place. The ecologic potential is devastating. What are the limits to which goverments can intervene? What should be required of the owners of these ships to help prevent them from being easy targets?

Your talking about mixing firepower and crude oil right? Pnuematic guns firing small torpedos to home in on the attacking vessel with the use of combined sonar and radar.

Kick azz! yeah make'em suck salt water for a while.

I mean until recently these attacks have been bothersome, just the cost of doing business. But with this latest hijacking it moves up to a whole new league. Not just because it is a supertanker , but because if they threaten to release the oil if their demands are not met the ecological impact would be immense. So it is not just how we deal with this one incident but how to deal with this problem as a whole.

They have a show like that but the crews arms are limited to ButterFinger Bars.
I like that one with the GreenPeace Founder's new vessel and the lunatics he has on board. Last week I saw an episode where they were launching a Zodiac and manage to run it over with the mother ship. LOL
This stuff can't be made up. The guy holding the bow line on the Zodiac just let the boat turn sideways and the crane pulled it sideways for about half a mile before the belay cable broke and the boat sucked under the stern of the Vessel launching it. It took them a half hour to pick these poor dumazzzesz out of the water.

Owners offer a bounty? with a bonus for return of the cargo? Surely there would be capable takers.

If you try to take it by force you risk an oil spill of massivive proportion, in a part of the world that would be next to impossible to respond to.

unfortunatly there is more gray in the world than black and white. This thing has the potential to be a big mess and dropping one big
a.. bomb will do more harm than good. I think this thing has to be thought through and a proper effective response has to be taken.

Latest news today is that an Iranian cargo ship has been pirated. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. I'm sure the U.S. Navy responded real fast to that distress call. I vote that they can keep that one
