At one time, in the State of California, approximately 60% of the inmate population were veterans. This is not the way for rehabilitation. There are too many freeloaders in police authority who target veterans as "Ripe Plums." The beat goes on with certain veterans being targeted by police delegation on a witch hunt.

Where's the proof to back this up?

Is this in regards to a recent event or something?

All the cops that I know have nothing but respect for our Veterans and would never intentionally target them for an unfounded reason.

I am also confused. Was there some research I missed somewhere? Statistics I cannot find?

Veterans (with PTSD) DO have a higher percentile rate of abusing alcohol or drugs. That, of course, would run into a higher rate of incarceration.

But 60%?

It's not that there is no God or that He isn't listening. You're probably just asking the wrong questions.

MOST? That is debatable, at best. I would substitute "many," which is a bit disingenuous, but more likely accurate.

It would be an interesting study, to be sure.

If you're going to say "Most" I would say "Most SWAT officers are former Military" That would be alittle closer to the truth I would think.

As for your run of the mill police officer... hardly. No offense intended at all, but alot that can't go into the military for whatever reason go Police.

I don't have any scientific way to back this up other then what I've seen.

Here in Fayetteville, NC, home of Fort Bragg an awful lot of law enforcement is ex military. They've been stationed here, like the area and stay after they're out. Other places where I've lived that are nowhere near a military installation don't have a large proportion of ex-military cops.

How come I pressed "One for English" and still can't understand a word the dude is saying?

My agency is accredited with the US Dept of Justice. We recently had 22,000 applicants for just 300 positions. After a competitive civil service test, they face.

1) Educational requirements, a medical and physical.
2) Complete background check that includes a credit history, neighborhood canvass, former employment histories, and letters-of-recommendations.
3) Polygraph exam
4) 8 month formal academy, which includes a PT program that requires 6 mile runs.
5) 18 months of field training
6) Probationary period
7) Code of ethics
8) Sworn oath of office, and constant criticism from those we're expected to help.

In return we have a compensation package that exceeds 100K for patrol officers. Our communities enjoy a virtually-scandel free department. I'm happy you feel military recruits maintain the same standards.

What I posted was in no way intended to be offensive. There are some Police Departments, like yours, that are very honorable and have very high standards. Then there are others...

What I posted was in reply to "Aren't most police officers former military?"

I work for the 13th largest PD in the US. We have 2,600 sworn officers. Veterans and reservists amount to 66% of our department. Even our non-vets hold tremendous respect for service members. There's numbers of projects working that supports military causes.

July 24th I'm participating in a Wounded Warrior Marathon to raise funds for hospitalized vets. It's a 26 mile beach run. Ready or not, here we come.

If you see a particularly, hair-follicely, challenged runner, wave to me. I'll be way in the rear, with the 9 minute plus runners-maybe having a few glazed doughnuts. Cool

I agree...if there was one..it would be too many.

99 44/100% of Police officers, imo are GTG.

I have to say the same percentage is true for the Police officers and LEO's I know personally.

I have nothing but respect for the profession Applause

The lovely bride met me at work for lunch. Waiting in my favorite dinner, I watched her pull up and park. To my surprise to fed the parking meter 50 cents. This is while I was the only cop in town.

Do you really think I would give my own wife a parking ticket? Hell no, cause I would end up paying for it.

Confused
