Any info would be great!

If he is paying for uniforms out of pocket it is. Medals are earned, therefore presented by the military, they are not deductible.

Keep smiling, everyone will wonder what you've been up to!

If he is given a uniform allowance he is allowed to deduct the amount spent over that. Example, he is given $400 per year, but spends $500 a year on uniforms. He then could deduct $100 only.

If he is buying replacement medals/ribbons he can deduct the amount based on the above also.

If he is not spending over the uniform allowance, if given one, then he cannot deduct what is spent.

No, i asked him again about it and he said that the first one they are given for free, but when the need to be replaced then he has to pay for them. My mistatke! I think he may be just a little too retentive about it! It seems like he always buying new ribbons and/or medals.
So we should be able to deduct the ones he buys?

Thank you! He does get an allowance, but not a lot (i dont think). I have also added up the money for his haircuts (he "must" get one twice a month!) Would that be counted as part of the "Uniform Allowance"?

Remember Mellisa that you have a "standard" deduction anyway.... and usually, unless you have a house, all the bills associated with it, special other cost, your itemized amounts will not usually exceed the "standard deduction". If you begin to nickle and dime a "red flag" goes up at the local IRS building and you don't want that....... good luck.

The standard deduction this year for just me and the wife was $10,600.00. I exceeded that with deductions, and still owed the fed $812.00. Mad
