my recruiter says I qualify for any enlisted job but I have no idea what I want to do. I need some pointers. What are some interesting jobs out there? I do NOT want a desk job.

Then don't enlist until you have a clue, because you won't be happy if you take someone else's suggestion and find out something else seems more appealing later. You'll always blame the guy who made the suggestion, instead of thanking yourself for the choice. You're looking for an alibi now, and you'll be looking for a crutch then - -

If you want Combat Arms, then chose one.

You want to bang on computer keys day in and day out? Then chose that.

You want to run and fix electronic gear, then jump on that one.

You want to twist wrenches and fix stuff? Then grab it.

They all have their good and bad points. Some can get you killed...

Either way, make up your own mind. That is what growing up is all about - -

With scores like that, you can do well in anyone of those. Decide what you want to do and go for it!

Best of luck!

Of course I won't enlist until I find a job that I truely find to be interesting, I'm just hoping I can get some insight on what different jobs are like. Definately do not want any clerical or legal related job. Looking for something exciting. I want to enlist for 4-6 years in an interesting job, and after that I want to do Pararescue. I'm not doing the PJ thing right away because I am not quite there physically. Does that make sense?

stay away from the combat arms....... get into something you can use on the outside. Not much need for an expert rucksack packer out here, trust me.

You just joined military.com this afternoon. Now maybe you've been doing some reading on here prior to joining but if not, stick around, read some of the comments in the branch specific and MOS specific threads.

I suggest you only post questions here on the "General Discussion" area or the "Wannabe sections" and not in those MOS sections or someone may light ya up a bit.

No one here can tell you what you want to do for a career but I guess we can all tell you what we thought of what we did and maybe just a handful of other jobs we were exposed to.

Good luck with your decision.

newbie.. and my tank jumped out of the plane too

although I'd do it all over again I have to be honest that the only job skill it gave me when I got out was ditch digger..... forget the John Wayne schit, be a REMF and LEARN something...

and Wolf........ nothing wrong with jumping out of a perfectly good airplane with a tank... just hold on tight and keep your eyes tightly closed. Wellllllll, actually the tank didn't really jump..... it just kinda rolled out the back and theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen.. Eek

How about Air Force Radar, Radio, SatCom, and Computer MAintenance... Now THAT is a group of skills that will be in demand for a while - -

But you have to be able to tolerate such things as sleeping in beds and having three hot meals a day instead of cots and MREs. It's a tough life - -

Are you looking to start a career? Think of what you want to do & if you can see yourself still doing it 30 or so years down the line.

I was promoted to Admiral in charge of the shaft alley on the ship I was on. I'd heard that ships use Lignum vitea, for main shaft bearings. Lignum vitea use's water as a lubricant.

I checked all the bearings for enough water, they were all low. I filled them with water.

On a cruise we were on, all the bearings burned out. I found out that the bearings needed oil.

Only the shaft seal was lignum vitea and it was self lubricating.

They had the audacity to bust me down to an E2!

Your AFQT is basically your overall score right? The highest you can get for you overall score is a 99 right? You got a 90 for your AFQT, so shouldn't all your other scores be up in the 100's and high 90's?
