Well I am back, I got some gas for my weed eater and just like I thought, My
wife came out just after about 5 minutes. GARY! get in here and let your son
come by tommorrow and do that. Big Grin

I just finnised dinner, we had pork chops in a tomato sauce with onions, mashed
taters, black eyed peas, and iced tea.

YUM, YUM.

While I was doing a little weed eating I had an idea for a new way for folks
in a wheel chair to get around that is somewhat like a golf cart. But will have
more torque than a golf cart. I think I can make in 2 or 4 wheel drive with
turf saver tires that they can take to a park or beach or where ever. It can have
a 2 or 4 seater and I think I can build it at half the cost of a golf cart.
It will be electric and with the amount of toruque I am thinking of putting in
it, you will be able to pull a little trailer so the family can ride with them.

The controls for hand operation will not be that hard to use and anyone can still
use just like a golf cart. I am working on a power invertor that would keep the
batteries charged while in use.

I have alot of ideas on how to do this as I think the golf carts are so over
priced, and I think that this would give familys more options on going places
outdoors that may limit wheel chairs.

I will start putting the designs on paper and see how this would turn out.

I am one of those kinds of people who are always thinking of how to build
something better. Wink

I was born in Fort Worth, but when I was about 2 or 3 my folks moved to a little town
just east of Mc Allen, in the 60s we our share of hurricanes. The one I remember the
most back in the 60s was Beuhla. It was listed as the 3rd largest to hit the North
American continent. I think it still holds the record for most tornadoes spawned by
a hurricane. We lived in our house for about 2 weeks as all was flooded for at least
that long. We had an older pier and beam that was just about 4 foot off the ground.

I was in the 4th or 5th grade by then. About 7 miles south of Alamo was a levey
system that was miles long and was 1 mile accross and about 1/2 to 1/2 mile deep.
That levy over flowed and to have 3 1/2 to 4 foot of water that far north, that was
alot of water. We got a double hit from that storm as it came up the mouth of the Rio
Grande and when it got to the Pharr, San Juan, Alamo area it turned north to San Antonio
and turned right around and came right back through. I still remember Carla, cammile,
and Ceilia back in those days.

Ah, the good ol days. Beer

Yep, They can be very unpredictable. At least we can track them and know when and where they will hit with the technology that we have now. Unlike the one that hit Galveston back in the day.

We evacuated for Rita but hunkered down for Ike. Evacuation was a cluster fbuck from hell. 22 hours in bumper to bumper contraflow traffic just to get to Dallas. Roll Eyes Normally a 5 hour drive. It was a nightmare. Wink The experience of Ike was nothing compared to the evacuation for Rita. Popcorn

Yea, times changed over the years. Back in the 60s everbody just stayed put.
I really don't think we had evacuation plans back then.

I do remember being in the Boy Scouts back then and we went around helping make
sure the elderly would be taken care of, and everyone had canned foods, water, candles
and some means to be able to cook and boil water. Then a few weeks later the Air
Force would fly these big planes in rows of 4 or 5 spraying for mosquitos. Then
about 6 to 8 weeks after that the fog trucks would spray again.

I miss going to the coast every other weekend during the summer. Wink

Hey UB, Smile
I received this in an e-mail and it made me think of you with your new Harley! Wink

Do you see the motorcycle?

Now do you see it?

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph.
The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident.
The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.
All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly.
This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and
Road Safety Department.

Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners
AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE!!!!!

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Wake up people , Stop talking on Cell phones and Texting while trying to drive.

We are only about a 30 minutes drive from the beach. Hubby and I used to go every Saturday. He would surf fish and I would sun bathe. It was relaxing and we enjoyed it. We haven't done that in years.

We drove down there after Ike and the landscape was almost unrecognisable.
What used to be rows and rows of beach cabins were just gone. Eek

Hard to believe but some stayed and tried to ride out that hurricane in a beach cabin. That's just CRAZY........ Listed as missing. Bodies Never found.

The reason we evacuated for Rita was because it was heading directly towards us and we had just witnessed what Katrina did to New Orleans 2 weeks earlier. We probably would have stayed if we had not watched on TV what was happening in New Orleans.

Funny thing is ~ The people that stayed for Rita said they'd NEVER do it again. The ones that evacuated for Rita said they'd NEVER do it again. LOL

One of my girlfriends took her daughter and their 2 cats and evacuated for Rita and her hubby stayed. When Ike was coming he was the first one in the car honking the horn yelling at them to hurry up "Let's Go".... LMAO Big Grin

Our area was under a mandatory evacuation for both Rita and Ike. Popcorn
