The funny thing is Black Marines where at Iwo but they were not frontline combat troops. And they were segergated from the rest. The jobs they mainly did were stretcher bearers and burial details. I do know that a bunch of Black Marines did hold of a Banzai attack late in the battle for Iwo and that was about it. Spike Lee needs to read the History of black troops in WWII before he spots his mouth off and talk to Clint Eastwood in private about it before making comments to a national audience.

I could go on with how about the Japanese Americans who fought in europe The 444th go for broke Division.German americans,Italian americans signing up in droves to fight for america.Isn't about time we got off this Black kick.During precolonal times,how about the Bonded slaves,Indentured slaves.prisoners off the british prision ships,that were there before black slavery began.If you want to cry about the black slaves,who in the hell rounded them up in Africa and sold them to the French and Spanish,there own raiding tribes of black people.

Sir, as an old timer you should know that it is your own races fault for this being an issue today. You have no one to blame but yourself and your forefathers. Race never should have been an issue yes, but it was, therefore it will be today now that we look back on it. We'd all like to forget it, but you and your forefathers made the humiliation for my forefathers and my father (just post-segration mil) impossible to forget, even today. As a veteran of one war, I can tell you we are cleaning up your mistakes of the past and we now have the best army ever fielded of all time. THIS generation, the real "Greatest Generation" due to our all volunteer force in a global war, colorblindness of our own brothers and sisters in uniform, and the few of us that take up for many are willing to fight for a nation in a mostly unpopular struggle.
There were blacks at Iwo. Spike isnt saying put 1,000 black marines stomring the beach. He is saying one or two..handling ammo..which they did. How would u feel if there were 100 movies made about the war and your stuggle was represented in only one or two. Think about it. Think about not being the majority for once in your life.

Four continents and three wars laterI have seen harmony,hate. love and respect and disrespect.Why is it while in the Military I saw respect, racial equalization,brotherhood (sorry I got out when they let pregnant females stay in,I havn'nt seen one squeeze thru A tank hatch yet.)I agree with you the military causes a certain bondage among members, more than firefighters or police or other like organizations.When you face death around every corner you rely on those around you and there is no race or gender involved.The problem started i think before your time.The racial discrimination faded from the military with Trumans equalization act.What then started up was this Prenational american bull. African, asian hispanic and others. The only race that put American before it was the American Indian.Me I am a American American.Talk about people that suffered more than the blacks.How many thousands of blacks were killed or driven off their lands.
