What are the best military Comedies, movies or TV shows. Bear in mind that they are generally unrealistic, but give your best shot. Some of my favorites: Movies: Soldier in the Rain, What Did You Do in the War, Daddy?, Kelly's Heros, and No Time for Sergeants. TV: The Phil Silvers Show(Sgt.Bilko), Major Dad and CPO Sharkey. I liked MASH after it got a little less preachy and with the arrival of Col.Potter and Maj. Winchester.
Well movies and TV shows have both been covered in other threads so I'll skip those. Comedies to me would be M*A*S*H as the best military comedy ever without so much as another consideration.

It's definately in the top. Here's something to consider next time which makes it even funnier in a strange way. I heard Slim Pickens had the role understanding that it was serious part, not a comedy or satire. Think about that next time.
"Dr. Strangelove" , because of the topic and the anti war lanaguge, did NOT approval from the DOD so they did not get support from the A.F. in the making of the movie. That is why the sfx of the B52's are so cheesey.
I kinda liked "Aliens" myself. The smack-talking of the Colonial Marines, in my mind, was the best portrayal of Joes I'd ever seen on screen.
"Kelly's Heroes" is one of my all-time favorites. I liked all the characters. They each reflected a little bit of different soldiers I've come across in my career.
"Heartbreak Ridge" was another hilarious one. Clint Eastwood made that movie.
