I’m probably one of the stranger “military enthusiasts” out there given how I’m most interested in modern military railroading (US military rail equipment carried the recording mark DODX…).*

Having constructed S-scale (1:64th scale) models of a variety of DODX equipment, including the heavy flats used to transport M1 Abrams, I’ve begun the research necessary to scratch build a model of the one of the SAC Peacekeeper LGM-118A Rail Garrison Trains.

These trains were designed to ferry our nuclear arsenal around the country in specially built railcars which could also serve as launching platforms for the missiles and thus make it impossible for our enemies to target the missiles.

I have managed to find a single picture of the missile launch car and was wondering if any of you knew where I could find additional pictures of this car, thus allowing me to make a more accurate model;

While I have found many pictures of the missile cars themselves, I only have a single picture of the missile car with the launch tube deployed and was wondering if any of you knew where I could find additional pictures of the insides of these cars;

Finally, the Rail Garrison Train also contained a tank car, two security cars, and a maintenance car, all of which were to be pulled by two engines. I have yet to locate pictures of these cars and would greatly appreciate any help any of you could provide in finding pictures of these cars.

Also, I’ve always found SAC airplane nose art to be fascinating and wonder if the airmen manning these trains would have been allowed to produce similar paintings on the insides of these trains. If they were then I’m thinking about painting the names “Duck” and “Cover” on the insides of the missile cars.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

If you’re interested, here are a few more pictures of the missile cars;

I'm the same way. I'm building an HO scale layout, with a SAC base on it. I'm also eager to build an MX train. Visiting the AF museum in Dayton last week got me more fired up, after taking detailed photos of the prototype Rail Garrison car there.
I'd also like to build a DOE Pantex nuclear "white train", but that also will take some creative kitbashing.
