someone just showed me a video of what looks like a minigun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDvtfCoPb-M

what helicopters do they mount them on? my friend told me they usually mount them in chinooks but occasionally on blackhawks. true? that looks enormous, would probably take up a lot of cargo room in a blackhawk.

The helicopter in the video is a huey. As far as its uses on helicopters I'm pretty sure that it's used on the blackhawk and huey. Also I may be mistaken but I think chinooks manely use M-240s.

thats sweet when the tracers ricochet off the earth. They use mini guns on a lot of helicopters. The black hawk has them the AH-6J Little Bird, and the AH-1 Super Cobra use them the chinook is not in anyway meant for fighting.

Actually, there have been Chinook Gunships. They can carry an incredible amount of firepower and ammo. And, for as large as it is, it's incredibly fast. At one time, the CH47 was the fastest helicopter in the US inventory.

I've never heard of a mini-gun being used on a Chinook. I've seen then mounted on Blackhawks, Hueys, and Cobras...but never a Chinook.

Apparently, MH-47s have two miniguns mounted. MH-47s are used for inserting or extracting Special Forces units.

A photo of an MH-47 (with one minigun visible) may be seen at http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft...mh-47e_020220_04.jpg

yeah miniguns are most definately used on a variety of helicopters, the Chinook being one of them as it was said earlier they are used for providing protective cover fire for extracting troops.

Cheers,

What ever happened to short bursts? I guess when you moving that fast and as good as those guys, you shoot how you want.

I bet the pilot can feel the gun pushing him over.

Since I am a certified Minigun armorer and have fired the gun, thought I would chime in. The gun itself does not take up much room because of the way the gun mounts. The barrel and the a large portion of the gun will stick out the side of the the helo.

Yes, the miniguns are used in Pavelows and the MH-47. The gun fires about 3600 rounds per minute and the hopper box will hold either 3000 rds. or 4000 with the modified version. You can also mount IR lasers and other stuff with the special brackets and adaptors.

When we fired out of the Huey we engaged targets as soon as we were able to correctly track and shoot and then walk the rounds into/ around tha target. It is not as hard as it looks. Firing it in the vehicle mode is even easier and will scare the hell out of hajji or the muj when you let loose. It is an impressive gun and Dillon has done a good job updating the system and making it reliable.

Dose it push whatever vehicle around? Did you ever calculate in your mind how expensive each trigger pull was?
