In brief:

Happy, anxious Navy depper, decent scores, (93 ASVAB, 132 DLAB) patiently waiting for my ship date (20080724, if not sooner.) Two questions, if anyone can offer either their answers or any valuable input:

One (the lesser of the two): Does anyone ever take leave during their time at DLI? I understand it is a rigorous course load, but do they allow holiday leave, or have a holiday break? I only ask because I've got a mother who is breathing down my neck to come and visit her sometime within the first 18 months of my enlistment.

Two (the more important): Two years ago (during my sillier, non-military young manhood days) I fell behind on a few credit card bills, which I'm sure has negatively affected my credit score. As of now, I am paying off the last bit of my debt, (under $1000), and since my enrollment in DEP have not been late on any payments, but will having ANY debt or bad credit at all be a negative mark against me, or is it only SUBSTANTIAL debt and SUBSTANTIALLY bad credit? (I ask because a friend of mine was denied IS for the Navy due to debt, and he states he only owed roughly $1,200.)

Thank you for your time.

Yes, you will get time off; you will get a holiday at Christmas, and you should get a class break of about 10 days, depending on how long your language is.

Be HONEST about your credit issues; so long as you are caught up and are honest about where you fell behind, it is not a show stopper.
