I am currently an RP I am trying to convert to CTN. I have a few hurdles that I know I will have to cross if someone could give me some insight that would be great.

My biggest problem is the TS SCI. I lost my secret 3 years ago due to finical reasons. I have straightened up and on track now. Am I blacklisted for TS?

My wife is a Pilipino citizen she is going to apply for US citizenship this month.

I almost have 10 years in on the CREO list it says open to E5 and below with less than 8 years yet it does not say anything about not being open to anyone over 8. If I am nuking this let me know. Is there a waver?

Is there anything else I can put in my package that would help (NET +)?

Thank you for your help

I am RP3 Larson currently in CTN 'A' school. I am not sure exactly what to say about your clearance situation. When a striker at my previous duty station was trying to strike for RP, his financial situation kept him from getting the clearance. They told him to keep it straight for one year and then submit a new package. Not sure if that is the same for TS/SCI.
My mom is Korean so they wanted to see her certificate of citizenship, but of course Korea and the Phillipines are little different when it comes to U.S. relations.
No clue about CREO.

I am completing a degree in IT so the career counselor said definitely put the current transcript, or Smart Transcript in the package, especially those dealing with networking. So, put anything in there that shows you want to be CTN and that you have already taken steps to get some experience on your own.

If you make it, post it here, and I will tell you what being at Corry as a fleet returnee is like. Of course, the school will have changed from 'A' school (4weeks) and 'C' school BDNA (7weeks) to the new six month school.

RP3,

I am PSSN Juarez, and I'll submit my package in a couple months. I'm doing, right now, NKO courses like the CompTIA, C++ and networking. Can you tell me how you like the school so far? What kind of duty you have and how easy or hard is the school? Thank you !

Hi SN Juarez,
That is good you are doing some NKO courses related to the CTN field.
I like the school pretty well. They are small classes so you can really get into discussion with the instructor to get a really good grasp on the course.
Duty as a fleet returnee is pretty relaxed since there are enough students to handle the watches during the week. The only duty days that returnees have to stand duty for CTNs is basically weekends only.
All that to say this, by the time you get here if your package is approved, the school will more than likely be different with more areas of study and a longer school in general.

RP3,

Thank you for the aswer!. I know that the CTN school will be a 6 month long starting in October this year or Jan 2010. I have two more questions for you 1) how long take your package to be approved? 2)do you have orders already, for your next command?
Onece again, thank you !

Once my package was submitted to the correct person (it took 4 tries by my career counselors to get it right) it took maybe 3 weeks for approval. After that I had orders within 24 hours. The orders have CTN A-school and my final duty station on them.

It took my package about 3 weeks as well. As soon as I got approved I called the detailer - CTNMC Montgomery - and asked about duty stations. I got follow-on orders to NIOC GA in Augusta. I'll be there in November.
There are basically these locations for out of 'A' school:
NIOC PENSACOLA
NIOC GA (Augusta)
NIOC NCDOC (Norfolk)
NIOC NORFOLK
NIOC MARYLAND
NIOC TEXAS (San Antonio)
NIOC HAWAII

Think thats it. You choose up to 3 for a "dream" sheet. However, since you will be fleet returnee you may be able to pick your locations prior to getting to Pensacola.

If you get conversion approval you can disregard you current rate's PRD. For example I had a year and a half left until my PRD for BM, but still got orders. Just follow the Milpersman article "Change in Rating Authorization" as long as you qualify there, you are good to go.

Like HookedUp, I too was not at my PRD. Once you are approved it is up to the detailer - and the Navy - to put you in the school. When the funds are available and a seat is open you will get a new set of orders to school that basically voids your current orders.

Those straight from Great Lakes will be bumped to get fleet returnees in.

That will be great for me, 'cause I want to get a pay grade advance as soon as possible, and in my current rate (PS), that is Mission Impossible.
