Ok, I enlisted for CTN. I have a little bit of skills in programing but they aren't too great. I have some questions that nobody around my recruiters office can answer because none of them really know anything about the job. If someone could help me out by answering any of my questions that would be pretty awsome.
1. What is subnetting. I've read up on here that is like the most important thing to learn. And if I could learn it before I go to bootcamp next July what would I need to do?
2. Top Secret Security Clearance worries. I have 4 tickets for traffic related stuff. Like $1,000 worth of credit card debt. and a "hit and run" wreck, which was just documented, no penalties were imposed. Basically i thought I hit the giant ass speed bump thing but a car was there and didn't think anything of it, and left. but everythign is straightened out with it, and it was 2 1/2 years ago, right when was first able to drive. That is the only thing I"m worried about. Will it cost me my clearance. and how long will it take to get the clearance.
3. What should I do to attempt to prepare for my "A"school as much as possible.
Q1 & 3: Don't worry about preparing. The Navy will teach you everything they want you to know at "A" school. Don't learn any bad habits before hand or they will just have to re-train you.
Q2: You should have completed security screening at MEPS (extra questionnaire). Provided you documented everything on that you should be fine. The biggest thing with debt and tickets is that you paid them off or are paying on time without being deliquent on payments.
Yeah, all my tickets are done with and long gone. I told them about the one thing that wasn't on my record they said don't worry about ti because no tickets were issued.

I don't have any good links for it off hand but a google search on it will get you thousands of good results. Subnetting is pretty basic and shouldn't take long to learn if you have any basic networking knowledge. You should be able to pick up enough info to get started in a weekend (or even just a few hours really).
Edit: Please keep in mind that I'm not a CTN so I don't have any inside knowledge of how the Navy does things. I'm just a DEPer going in for IT but I have two years civilian IT experience with a 4-year degree.
Just keep in mind, unlike most ratings in the Navy, with CTN you must pass both "A" and "C" school to earn the rating. If you fail out of either, they will either send you to another rating (if you are trying hard in school), or they will send you to the fleet undesignated (if you're partying too much and not trying).
As far as the $1K, that's nothing. As long as you're making your payments on time, don't worry about that.
The traffic tickets are kind of bad, they show a disreguard to rules, which in any of the CT ratings, you cannot have a momentary lack of judgement. Just be honest with the Navy, and they should work with you...
They will teach you everything in school. Sometimes it's not good knowing too much because you have already picked up bad habits. Sometimes it's better to learn from the ground up....
