CTTs analyze non-communication, non-nuclear induced electromagnetic (EM) signals. In layman's terms, it means they analyze RADAR signals. Some will do deep analysis to determine the capabilities and limitations of the equipment that generated the signals. Others will compare the signals to a known database in an effort to determine the identity of the platform that generated the signal.

Usually, the later is found onboard ships, and their input helps the ship's Tactical Action Officer maintain a good grasp on who is who around the ship.

A-school for CTTs involves the study of Radar theory, the EM spectrum, some electricity and electronics theory, and some basic math.

Some CTTs (the ones tagged as CTT-AEF) will attend a follow-on school where they will get greater training in electronics, basic troubleshooting methodology, and learn how to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the AN/SLQ-32 (pronounced "Slick 32") Countermeasure System.

Thanks for this info. I'm currently in DEP as a CTT and ship to boot in 2 weeks and no one could really give me a good idea of what it is I'll be doing...

Thanks for replying!

My daughter will be gong to boot camp in February and, if all goes well, CTT "A" school after that. I'm wondering how women do, generally, in this field, or if it's one usually held by men. Is there any thing that would help prepare for the school? Is this position already overmanned? As you might have quessed, I'm new to the military. Any information is appreciated.

Hey Cryptomom,
Every website has their pro/cons. This site is the absolute best for Active duty/Deppers/and VETS...

You being a mother, you need to go to the other site www.navy-parents.com It is geared more towards the families. You will get alot more support and answers there.

We are all here to help our sailors. Just wanted to give you that advise...

Your daughter will be expected to do exactly the same job as everybody else in that rate. While she is a newbee and junior she will clean spaces and learn her new rate with increasing reponsibilities as she shows her abilities and attitude. As she pregresses up the ladder the jobs will become more difficult and more will be expected of her. In other words, how she does is entirly dependant on her.
