I am almost done my degree (December can't come soon enough) in Computing Security and I had a quick question. In preparing to become a CTN would it be wiser to get my CCNA (two test option) or to pick up a programming language (looking at Python and PHP)? I am pretty much ready to the CCNA just need about a month to study for each test. But I was thinking it might be smarter to get some programming under my belt. Thanks in advance...
Both are great things to have, which would be more useful would most likely depend on what duty station you go to. Some things to keep in mind are: Navy (80% sure) will pay for your CCNA (through Navy Cool), Also you can always teach yourself Python and PHP while you are at school, or when you first get to your duty station.
Yeah I think I am going to go with getting the Cisco Cert. Like you said I can always learn the programming later on. Maybe if I start a Masters Degree program!
"N" is soooo over-rated, more people should go "R".
Aren't they pushing every "N" through cert prep courses anyhow?
It never hurts to bring skills (or skillz as an "N" would say) to the table but your shop will teach you what they want you to know. I'm not saying don't learn on your own, do so and as often as you can, yet in there maybe a certain method to how your shop wants it done and that they should teach you.
