Good day all,
Currently an active duty sailor (OS2) heading out to CID in OCT. From the folks I've spoke with (9138's and few instructors at the school house) it seems that voluntary study is the key. After taking a look at the curriculum I'm wondering about the math in Vol. 1, is it just electronics math? How do able is it to get sent into the 9147 pipeline after completion of "A" school? Are the classes self paced? Also can students operate out of the MARS shack on base (Contacted the call sign trustee and asked, yet while talking to an instructor on the phone what he told me was different.) Is there still many HAM ops in the "R" brancher community? Now on to the topic of DIRSUP. A few things were posted on this board about it and I've been able to talk with a few "I" branchers as to how they liked it. Spookgroup (http://spookgroup.tripod.com/) sold me on the idea with the sea stories on their site. All descriptions lead me to expect lot's of underway time, that is fine for me, but is the underway worth it (The real question is on a sub platform how well will/can a 9147 excel at that NEC or is shore based billet a better place to learn). Since I brought up 9147 how much of the rate is base on that sort of work? Anyhow I think this is enough for now, thanks for reading. Cheers |

Here is some good gouge I saw on Yahoo answers:
98% of the work you will be doing is Classified, so you will NOT be able to find any information on a public domain like the internet. Additionally, no rated CTRs(or any of the CT ratings for that matter) will be allowed to discuss anything with you, as you do not have the necessary Clearances. Expect at least one DIRSUP tour after you finish schooling. That's when you are -technically- assigned to shore duty, but will augment ships, subs or squadrons when necessary. EVERYBODY volunteers( or more accurately, is voluntold) for aircrew, Males must also volunteer for Sub duty. this DOES NOT mean you will get it, you still have to pass the physicals necessary. On DIRSUP orders you be assigned to one ship/sub/squadron and only go when they need your services, or you could be tossed in a pool and go out as often or as little as your name comes up. meaning you could be gone all the time, or not at all. Then of course there is PCS Afloat, as well as real shore duty. Work can NEVER come home with you, meaning there will be days when you will be at the command a very long time. I personally LIKE the fact that he can't bring work home. If you want more information, what limited that you can access, check out the Navy Intelligence Forums on Military.com. -mrsjvb |

I was looking around NKO this evening and came across the CID page and found some modules to work on:
Dimensional Analysis 045DA01 Number Systems 045NS01 Scientific Notation 045SC01 Time Zones 045TZ01 Radio Wave Propagation sco12_e64ad9f There are several others as well if you search through the courses. Point is if any of you gents/gals have access to NKO and are cross rating take a gander at the courses, who knows it may help. |
