I'm looking for some assistance with my conversion package. Outside of the SF86 what are they looking for in the IS conversion. Anyone that has done this in the past few years that has some advice?

MA2(EXW),

Be sure you're working with your Command Career Counselor on this. Besides the security questionnaire, there will likely be a CO's Recommendation, submission of a 1306/7, an interview with a Special Security Officer (SSO), and you will need to provide copies of past evaluations.

Good luck!

Thanks Chief,

I had read all of that in the MILPERSMAN...I was just trying to find out if there is anything else that goes into this. I've worked as a Division Career Counselor and have assisted with a couple conversion packages. The queestion I was really wondering is there any courses/certifications I could do to make my package look better?

How about taking the IS3&2 and the IS1&C Courses. If you are proficeint in those you will show that you have an apptitude for the IS rate and show that you are serious about converting. As a MA2 you should have at least a Secret clearance right? The courses are classified Secret so you should have that security clerance at least.

Im at a training site currently and don't have access to those courses but ill definantly do more research into getting access to them.

Yes as an MA Secret is required so maybe somewhere along the way ill find a way to get access.

Also found an SSI(sensitive security information) certification via Navy Cool I intend to work on.

As a IS you will need an SSBI done (SF-86) and you will need to be VERY accurate in filling it out. IS personnel have to have a TS SCI clearance, so your record has to be real clean, especially your financial dealings. Drug use and financial information is key to getting your clearance. The IS courses are Secret so get access to them ASAP. You can go far as an IS, I mentored a AT2 on the carrier I was on (CVN-69) he made ISCS. Good Luck. Keep me posted.

Financially im imaculate and with the money from this deployment im on it'll get the wife's financial issues in order(didnt want them holding her student loans against me)...Drug use has always been a negative.

When the did my security clearence before I was interviewed 3 different times and that was just for Secret so im expecting this to go pretty in depth.

Thanks again for the advice and help.
