I'm currently on an IA deployment to Kuwait, but I received my letter notifying me that my rate conversion to IS (from ET) has been approved. However, to make my new rate permanent I have to complete the Navy Basic Intelligence Training Course (self-paced CBT modules), before I can take the "A" school.

I've searched for months, and been able to find no indication where these courses are. My CCC has been no help. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find these CBT courses?

Thanks!

You will attend NBIT during drill weekends for 10-12 months, followed by a 2-week AT at the NMITC in Dam Neck, VA. Your drill weekends will comprise of training modules on intel-related topics - you'll receive instruction and be tested on the various material.

Your Reserve Intelligence Area (RIA) will conduct the training. Contact your NOSC to find out where this is located.

Good luck!

Thanks, Chief! I honestly wasn't too optimistic about receiving a helpful response. It just goes to show the old adage: when you need to know, ask Chief.

Here's the problem, though. I've written to my NOSC, and haven't heard back. I've written to my RIA (Midwest) with similar results.

Finally, because I've been deployed since February, my time is running out. I'll be back in the States in December, and have until August to finish the CBT courses. My letter says that they're 'self-paced'. Is there any way to speed up the process, or perhaps do it in a single AT/ADT period rather than drill weekends?

If not, how common are extensions? I know they can be difficult to get, but I do have a legitimate reason, I feel.

Thanks again!

You are welcome!

You need to talk to the RIA about getting your modules completed -- find a DSN and call them from Kuwait!! Do not rely on email, as they can end up nowhere in cyberspace.

I know my RIA does not offer a condensed version...not sure about RIA Midwest. I do not know if extensions are permitted, but the RIA could likely work with it. I know some people who drill in RIA MIDWEST (Great Lakes), I can try and find you some answers, or at least contact information. Send me a PM with your rank/rate, name, email, etc. and I'll see if I can help you get things sorted out.

Try NOSC Minneapolis, which is where NBIT is held for RIA Midwest.

Good Luck!
