I'm at IS A-School right now. School is easy but YOU HAVE TO STUDY. I can't tell you about school, but if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

How long did it take from when you graduated boot camp until you got to IS A school and how long was it before you started classes

Its different for everyone, some come two days after graduation from RT others can wait a week. All depends.

I classed up about 1-2 weeks after i got to Dam Neck. But, Some do wait longer then others.

Can you tell me why they wait? Is it not enough people to start a class? How large are the classes? Hows the PT & living arrangements?

Normally the wait is for enough people to class up, other times its availablity of instructors.

We PT 3 times a week (Mon,Wed,Thurs) , Our new Chief runs it and it lasts about an hour or so.

Berthing isnt that bad. 2-3 people to a room. You have a microwave and a fridge. You can have damn near anything you want in your room if you fit it.

Liberty works like this, We just got a new LCPO so things might change, but this is normally how it is.

Phase 1: No Civies, In by 2200 every night, can only leave base on weekends, No driving or riding in a POV (Lasts about 4 weeks, You get a watchstanding PQS that you get signed off, then you have an oral board to get phase 2)

Phase 2: Civies OK!, In by 2200 Sun-Thurs, 2400 Fri and Sat, Can Have a car on base, Can leave base any day

Phase 3: Unrestriced liberty (You wont get this till you graduate A-School)

Unrestricted liberty? does that mean that you could leave for the whole weekend w/ permission? Do you really need a car while you are there, I wasnt planning on bringing mine. Do you go right from "A" school to "C" school? Thanks for answering all my questions!

Unrestriced means that you come and go as you please (Unless your on duty).

You don't NEED to bring your car, theres a bus that runs on base on the weekend and theres a bunch of cab companies in the area. I have my car here and it does have its advantages. Its about a $15-20 cab ride to the mall, another $15-20 back, so having a car does save a bit cash in the long run. I dont recommend it unless you live on the east coast.

Most people are on hold between "A" and "C" for various reasons (Waiting to class up, TS hold). Nearly everyone on hold loves it cause its a small break between A and C school.

Are you active or reserve?

Sounds like most things are the same as when I was there, with only two changes. One, we did not have rooms, we were in an open bay with 4 person cubes that were open on both ends. There were two bunk beds and 4 desk/locker combinations. The other difference was the restriction to base in the first 4 weeks on the weekdays. I don't recall that being in place then. But it was 20 years ago, so I could be a bit fuzzy on that point.

To both of you, good luck and best wishes. I think you will both like the rate, I think it was the best decision that I made in choosing IS.

I will be active! I can't wait! TS hold? Is that for those who's clearance havent came in yet? Because I read on here that your clearances dont come in until you get to your 1st command. Did you have any choice in your "C" school? You are a big help! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all these questions. Smile

You get your clearence before C-school. You need your TS for C-school because you deal with TS material. As far as choice for c-school goes, you get to fill out a dream sheet. Then, the chief in charge of a-school will try to fit the dream sheets to the available billets for the class around the week before the class graduates. You get to choose in order of preference the four c-schools and between 5 geographical locations (ie europe, the west coast etc.). People are given billets starting with whoever has the highest grade in class. Things generally get pretty close to what you want depending on your rank in class.

Thank you for explaining it to me. Ifyou are on TS hold does that m
ean that you arent getting that clearance or they are still in the investigative process? I'm just wondering that if you are placed on TS hold do you need to worry about that or is that just normal? Thanks for explainig how the billets are chosen. I really dont care where I get sent. Thank you!

On hold means that they are waiting on the final determination from the people conducting the Clearance investigation.

i will happen several times during your career esp. if the level you need changes. I think it took like 3 months for DH to get his latest permission to get into the building, and he's had a Clearance for ten years or so already.

Instead of starting a new topic, I thought i'd just ask on this one since it pertains to the rate I'm interested in. With no law or credit violations, will having used marijuana (3) times total, over a year and a half ago be detrimental to acquiring a TS clearance?

Very likely, yes...but I am not the authority. I am pretty sure, however, that many agencies will only permit a waiver for one-time usage only.
