When I went through meps and signed up for CTN in Sept. the job description showed that CTN school was 11 weeks long. My recruiter was actually thinking about crossrating into CTN last week and gave me a call. He found out that CTN school is "about 6 months".
"usmilitary.about.com/cs/navy/a/navyctn.htm]http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/navy/a/navyctn.htm" That link is the most uptodate thing i can find. It is updated as of Feb 19, 2009. Right below the title it states that CTN now replaces "CTA, CTM, and CTO." I am assuming that this is why the school is longer now. Could someone please shed a little more light on this for me. My biggest concern is that my wife and I need to make plans for however long I am gone. It is my understanding that IF your school is longer than 6 months she would be able to accompany me. So to wittle all that jibber jabber into simple questions: How long is CTN school and do we still get BDNA? How long does it take to class up now? (read stories of people takeing 5 months to class up, but those were from Feb 08) If the new CTN school is over 6 months would my wife be able to go? This message has been edited. Hey there fellow CTN Depper.
I was so very very fortunate enough a few weeks ago to give the CTN detailer a call, Master Chief Montgomery, and he mentioned that starting in October of 2009 the CTN schooling will go from 11 weeks (what it currently is) to aprox. six months. The difference is probably just less on-the-job training that the 11 week A+C schoolers are currently subjected to. I suppose all new sailors classing up in and around October will be getting the "new" school, and those classing up prior will be getting the "old" school (obviously). When do you ship out?? I have heard stories of classing up within a week to three months. I don't think it is possible whatsoever for us to know how long after BC it will take for us to class up until pass-in-review day. As far as your other questions... I can't speak for those as I do not know the answers. I would think your wife would be able to come along... but as I am merely a nub to the Navy myself I'm not sure on the housing situation for married Sailors during A school. I'm leaning towards thinking that you will have to stay in the barracks with your shipmates while attending school, but again I do not know for sure. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. |

A school is about 3 weeks I believe, it's been 1 year since I've gotten out so my memory is a bit foggy. I believe BDNA is about 6 weeks? My stay in Pensacola was about four months total with 1 month in holding.
As for the six month thing, they held a pilot course for that a few months ago. I was told that a majority of the students failed the first test, and that there were a lot of problems with the curriculum. The six month course would include IDNA and ADNA, making it much harder... I believe they're tweaking the whole six month DNA curriculum right now, and maybe another pilot course or two afterward. So to answer your question, you're most likely going to have the ~3 week A school followed by the 6 six BDNA course. |

CTN school is definetly now 6 months. There is no more BDNA school etc. I had orders to report to A school on the 18th of July and then C school after. They cancelled BDNA school completely about a week ago, so the detailer called and told me, and last week I recieved my ORMOD to report OCt 3rd for school. Yes it is 6 months, and it is PCS orders, so to answer your question: you will be able to take your family with you. You're orders will fund it.

So this means potentially E-4 over 4, fleet returnees could receive BAH?

Yes that is correct because that's what I fall under. Since it is PCS orders you are authorized to live out in town and recieve the BAH if you choose to.

Nice, now all I need is approval and orders.

I got my orders today to report by the end of August. They still mention CTN A-school, and BDNA school separately.

I am currently finished with week2 of CTN 'A' school. Aug 24 I start BDNA. The six month school is around the corner. I heard from some here that the new school starts in Jan '10. As of right now though, it is 'A' school then BDNA 'C' school, 4 and 7 weeks respectively. |

Forgot to mention, if you are fleet returnee you will stay in staff barracks either on Corry Station or NAS Pensacola.
I was stationed here so my family was already here of course. I stay with them and to keep my BAS had to route a chit. If you don't you will have your ID toggled to eat in the galley...and of course that means BAS deductions during 'A' school. You can possibly get that changed during 'C' school if you do end up getting BAS deducted. |
