Hello, I'm no longer in dep but can't figure out to change the screen name yet...in fact, I'll have about 45 days of leave when I leave DLI to head to Fort Gordon in a few weeks. I don't want to use too much leave on the trip, my friends are already at Gordon, but I'm interested to know when I'll be able to use my accumulated leave.
I'm assuming I'll have to wait until the end of the months of training at Ft Gordon. After that, before the OTJ training or after it, will I be able to take a random month off and get away? or do I have to use during specified breaks? I know it won't be A-school rules, but would the command frown on skipping town for a whole month at one time?

Take a couple weeks enroute. Just keep your sponsor and the CMC updated on what your plans are.

The command WILL frown on taking whole months. Usually anything beyond 2 consecutive weeks is questioned. You can apply for Leave anytime. But except for holidays and other stand-down periods, a Command can only have approximately 10% of its sailors on leave at any one time. That, plus operational commitments could preclude you from taking leave sometimes, but all the Commands I've been at are willing to work with you.
