Hello I am Prior service AE2. I've been out for 4 years and am now returning to the Navy. Going through MEPS I was given the rate IS. I will be going through A and C school as an E-3 and on graduation of C school I will go back to E-5 IS2. I have a couple of concerns. First as an AE I had a secret clearance and now I have to get a top secret. What happens if I was unable to get the clearance? I don't feel that there is any reason I would be denied but I want to know if they would keep me as a E-3 and make me strike or if I would be able to choose another rate. Secondly is there a website that anyone knows of that has more information on it as far as what a IS does besides the basic Navy Jobs website? Switching from aviation to IS is a big change and I'm just trying to get a head start. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Your not going to find any information on the web about being an IS. Its pretty shut up. If you dont get your clearance, which from what i've seen is pretty rare, i believe they let you go ahead and pick another rate. They treat you fleet guys a little differently here at dam neck. But you should be good.

Dont worry about IS A. There are plenty of people that come from the fleet from all rates aviation included and they adjust just fine. =)
