I have a friend that told me that. Once your a CTI you can no longer travel to any communist country and you have to do a polygraph test every year even if you retired. Is that true? Im asking because I'm getting a package ready to crossrate and if it limits to where i can travel after the navy i probably wouldnt want to be a CTI anymore.

Can't say about any polygraph test but the travel restrictions are real. It doesn't necessarily mean you can't travel overseas, you just have to get approved to travel to any country on the list at that time. What countries are on the list I don't know, nor do I know who formulates it.

When I got out after serving as an RM I was restricted to that for 20 years. Didn't affect me in any way and I didn't worry about it in the least.

Your specific statement about communist countries does raise a question though. Whats the interest there?

USS Liberty, Never Forget.

Concur, there are serious travel restrictions, and not just to communist countries - there are many nations that are considered sensitive.

The ONE person you need to discuss this with is your command security officer - he/she will have access to the DOD security manuals and is in the best position to give you an intelligent answer in this regard.

Your question on nations with a specific ideology raises an interesting question - do you have family members residing in one of those nations? If so, that may be a serious issue. I do know of one who was a naturalized US citizen, had family living in Vietnam, and was denied a TS for that very reason as it was felt they could be used to exert influence on him to compromise information.

Ok so does that mean you can't travel to other countries just to visit or vacation? Would anyone know if Jamiaca is one of them?

lets just say the amount of paperwork that DH( an IWO) had to fill out and the online anti terrorism brief thingies he had to suffer Death by Powerpoint through just to take a closed loop cruise that makes stops in Cozueml and Grand Cayman was impressive. right now Tijuana is pretty much OFF limits to all personnel.

generally speaking, if the State depeartment has issued a warning/ban.. then so has the military. Jamaica can be on the list occassionally due to civil unrest there.
