So i just started IT A school a few weeks ago. (just out of boot)I've done some research on the CTN rate and realized this definitely would have been the better choice for me. Especially after learning what exactly IT's do. I'll be mortified if i get stuck in RADIO.

I'm wondering if anyone has some info on if it's possible for me to cross now. I've been trying to find some information about this but haven't come up with much.

Not sure if it would help my case to mention I'm 4th generation Navy. Grandfather being a retired commander, my aunt a Lieutenant Commander and uncle a Lieutenant.

Oh and I exceed the required ASVAB score.

Edit: You can contact me directly at oxamourxo@yahoo.com if you need to. Be sure to make the topic about the discussion. I get lots of spam mail haha. Thanks for any help!

you will need to complete your initial term before requesting to cross rate. They just spent time and money teaching you how to be an IT. they are going to get that back from you..as an IT.

Been listening to tall tales in school I see. CT isn't all its cracked up to be but then thats my opinion. The information available on the rate in this unclassified place is sparce but MrsJ is correct.

If you learn as much as you can about the radio rate (IT) you'll be ahead of the game on some aspects of CT if you decied to go that route.
Now why don't you try and convince me that being a radioman is mortifying.

I am wondering why you would be mortified to be in Radio? Is it to hard or something?

At this point you have 2 years or longer until your obligated service in that current rating.

RIGHT NOW: I have been watching the conversions on bupers and ITs generally cannot go into CTN as IT are in need as much as CTN and thus disapproval for conversion. But in 2 -4 years who knows might change but doubtful and it doesn't hurt to try.

Contact your Permanent Duty Station CCC.

Radio will help you advance more also from what I hear from the IT guys. Not to mention you may get high clearances than ADP

I was an IT in the Navy for 4 years, I got lucky and worked in the Networks Operations Center in Hawaii. We worked closely with alot of CT's and from what I knew when I was in there was talk of eventually merging CT and IT.

Also something to consider is advancement. As an IT you will advance alot quicker through the ranks, because the rate is more open. My husband was and ET and they as well as alot of the CT's I worked with had a hard time making rank due to it being so overcrowded. I made 3rd class first time up, second class 1st time passed but didn't advance, 2nd time, passed and advanced just a little after 2 years! My husband an ET, passed and advanced each time, but it took him 4 years to make 2nd. These are all things to look at when considering to cross rate!
