Good Morning,
can someone help me with a little bit about the history of the Navy's Cryptologic Intel development from 1925-1947? If there is a book, or any other reading material about a Navy Captain that had a huge part in the development of the program it would be much appreciated. Or a name of said Captain. If you dont want to post here, my profile is public and you can email me. I am an active duty Coastie, so please be easy on me.

Movie: guy walking around in a smoking jacket all day long.. talks about leaking info about a certain island having boiler troubles.

I THINK its the movie Midway...

anyway that character is the Father of Naval Cryptology..and I cannot for the life of me remember his name.

Papa Joe something or other....

Oh no really? I had not realized that changes were made and no one can see my profile. I guess I will wait and see what answers I get here until someone asks to email me. ugh. Why would admin do that and not tell us??

Mrsjvb, thanks for the hint. I will try and google that and see what I come up with. If you remember the name, please post! =)

You were right! The Battle of Midway. It starred Charlton Heston (one version anyway) and I found my guy...Capt. Joseph Rochefort.

Thanks!

KJ - have you tried Google? I just did and got 17K hits using "history of naval cryptology" as a search parameter. There is everything from official statements from NAVSECGRU to references to authors, books, and articles on the subject.
