I don't know...that is something new since I was in. I thought it was very interesting however, at how low the advancement was to E-5 last cycle for some CTIs. That happened when I was in too...there were years where everybody made it, and then there would be a bust where the advancement rate was under 10%.
I would think, though, that an advancement rate of 100% for CTI E6 means that a HECK of a lot of CTI E5s are seeking greener pastures and leaving the service.
I'm curious to find out as well what those numbers mean. I'm waiting to go to DLI myself for arabic (hopefully). Also Saxquiz what does your avatar mean? That FSM? I'm curious...
Firstly, I haven't fully fleshed out my profile or figured out how to work most of the functions on the site (just registered today), but I'm a DEP Recruit currently in the process of reclassing to CTI (I'm currently in the AE/CF program).
Anyways, though I don't know what the six numbers themselves are for, I know what the number system represents. I can't remember where I read it, but I'm confident that I read it somewhere.
Anyways, the languages that the Navy sponsors are split into 6 groups. This affects promotion, I'm not sure if it's just at the E-7 level or not. The reason for this is that since the numbers of different language CTIs varies by time and military need (for example, German and Japanese both would have been useful in WWII, Russian during the Cold War, and currently Arabic and, to a lesser extent, Chinese), they don't want the leadership of CTIs to be inflated one way or the other.
That is to say that the Navy doesn't want 90% of the CTICs to all be Arabic linguists, which would make promotion awkward and difficult for people of less common languages. So, the languages are split into the six sections (but, as I said, I don't know which languages are in which number, I know there are several in a few but I think some are alone) and CTIs are separated for promotion into those 6 categories to more evenly determine promotions.
I can't find the link, I've been searching for it for a while, but I'll continue to try. I've enjoyed the forum immensely so far today and I can't wait for my future in the Navy.
