I've been reading as much info as I could sink my teeth into on this forum about the CTI rate and DLI. My package for conversion is coming along pretty smooth so far. Almost done with my paperwork for the background check to begin. I have a few questions if anyone would be able to shed some light on them for me.

I speak Russian, although I haven't taken the DLPT for it yet. If I were to take the test and score 3/3/2 will I be put into the Russian language and direct convert to CTI3 (I'm AE3 now), or would they have me study a second CAT IV language since I scored a 123 on the DLAB?

Also I was born in the former Soviet Union and although I and my entire family are US citizens, I'm concerned about my clearance being approved. Should I worry? I ask because I was considering waiting on putting the whole request to convert through until my clearance is approved, but I'd like to get started with DLI as soon as possible. In anyones opinion, should I wait or just get the process goin?

One last thing... What is the likelyhood of getting stationed in San Diego for a CTI and is it only Asian languages that would get you stationed there like Hawaii?

Thank you for any info again. These forums have been very helpful.

You will not get stationed in San Diego as a CTI. With individuals born in countries considered hostile to the United States, it is difficult to predict how your clearance process will go. Generally, if your immediate family were not employees of a regime hostile to the US (ie worked for the Soviet Government), you will have an easier time.

But the GRU offered its employees great education benefits for their families.

Its not very often I read something on this posts that makes me spew coffee...but that was one of them. I can think of some very witty additions to that particular comment; unfortunately all of them are classified.

Nicely done.
