It depends on your chosen rate. As a CTI, you get auto-E4 after finishing DLI. Can't vouch for other rates.......

Auto E-4 for CTI is only after youve done your time as an E-3. Many people who arrive here at DLI as E-2 or E-3 and take the shorter 6 month or 42week courses graduate as a rated Seaman, and will automatically get E-4 when their time as E-3 is up.

That sounds more like graduated top of their class and selected for A.A.P ( Accelerated Advancement Program ) I had to extend a year on my contract to get A.A.P.

Yes you get auto E-4, but you need to do the BMR's and do the TIR(Time in Rate). But you will be here for so long in Pensacola that you should get it. Be prepared to be here for 12-18 months, thats why CTT/AEF is a 6 y/o contract. I have been in Pensacola since Feb, and I am starting "a" school next month...I'm a 6 y/o. There has been 6 CTT/AEF's that have left Corry as E-5's in the last 4 months, because they have been here so long and had a chance to take the E-5 test.

I'll be E-3 when I get to 'A' school. If you are in holding waiting on a clearance for about three months and then start CTR 'A' school for three more months, wouldn't that put you past your TIR for E-4? Isn't TIR from E-4 to E-5 only six months? I've also heard that once you report to your PDS you could still be in holding waiting for permanent TS clearance to go through. Theoretically you could test for E-5 while still in holding couldn't you?

You can only test for E-4 and E-5 when you are rated. Disclaimer: Info after this may be wrong: Ok, should you pass the E-5 test, which I have not heard of any CTR's getting to take the test while here at corry, should you pass it, you will put the extra chevron on, but you will not get the pay raise until I think you reach your PDS.

Does this apply to IS in the Reserves as well? Also, are their other schools for IS?

I wouldn't think you would be at Corry long enough to test for E-5 unless your clearance was taking way longer than it should. I had heard that you could still be in holding once you report to your PDS waiting on the full TS clearance. That's what I meant by taking the E-5 test while still in holding. You would already be at your PDS at the time. According to what you have said, you should be able to put on the chevron and receive the pay at that point...in theory.

I have a question what do you do when your in holding? If your not going to school are you just kicking it until your clearance pass. And what do you need to have a secret clearance general. credit score wise? thanks guys.

You're playing mop jockey.

Secret is based largely on your credit standing and your criminal record, or lack thereof.

Ok I'm confused as I have a 4 year contract and am CTT. My stuff lists my A school as 14 weeks. Please someone explain this to me.

The CTTs with the 6-year option have the Advanced Electronics Field (AEF) option written into their contract.

After A-school, these folks will stay in P'cola to learn how to maintain, troubleshoot and repair the AN/SLQ-32(v) system. This extra school is fairly long. Because of the extra training provided, these folks have to commit to an automatic 2-year extension of their original enlistment.

One of the incentives to get people to Enlist for this program is automatic advancement to E-4 once TIR and course work (i.e. BMRs etc) requirements are met.
